Payday 2 plan your heist well
« on: May 23, 2013, 11:05:13 am »

So payday two is now on preorder on steam and its looks much better than the first and i find my self really wanting to get this one. It has turned more into a heist simulation now ( I use simulation lightly ) and can pick out your heists and who you take with you is more important now and depending on what skill tree you go down can really effect how the heist goes down

Feature list:

Rob Banks with Friends – Players must choose their crew carefully, because when the job goes down they will need the right mix of skills on their side.
CRIMENET – The dynamic contract database lets gamers pick and choose from available jobs by connecting with local contacts such as Vlad the Ukrainian, shady politician "The Elephant", and South American drug trafficker Hector, all with their own agenda and best interests in mind.
PAYDAY gun play and mechanics on a new level – firing weapons and zip tying civilians never felt so good.
Dynamic Scenarios – No heist ever plays out the same way twice. Every single scenario has random geometry or even rare events.
Choose Your Skills – As players progress they can invest in any of four special Skill Trees: the Mastermind, the Enforcer, the Ghost and the Technician. Each features a deep customization tree of associated skills and equipment to master, and they can be mixed and matched to create the ultimate heister.
More Masks than Ever – PAYDAY 2 features a completely new mask system, giving players the ability to craft their own unique mask together with a pattern and a color combination.
Weapons and Modifications – A brand new arsenal for the serious heister, covering everything from sniper and assault rifles to compact PDWs and SMGs. Once you've settled for a favorite, you can modify it with optics, suppressors, fore grips, reticles, barrels, frames, stocks, all of which will affect the performance of your weapon. There are also purely aesthetic enhancements - why not go for the drug lord look with polished walnut grips for your nine?
Play It Your Way – Each job allows for multiple approaches, such as slow and stealthy ambushes, to running in guns blazing. Hit the target any way you want, and watch as the heist unfolds accordingly.

After they released a few patches to work out the heinous bugginess on release, Payday was a fun little "beer & co-op" game. Nothing award-winning about the gameplay and it suffered from many of the same from problems that L4D did (albeit with less of the bad "magical forced 'cooperation'" design decisions), but I don't regret the $5 I paid for it.

Payday 2 could be a legitimately great game is they make it more heist, and less L4D.

It looks and sounds so good. I am being cautious until I see these elements executed. A handful of companies have teased us with similar features but to my knowledge none has brought them to fruition but instead just broken games with rudimentary gameplay and the omnipresent promise of more to come.
Payday 1 was a fun romp and I got my $20 worth out of it. I had maybe 4/40 heists play out in a collaborative and exciting way. That was enough for me.

I have nearly 200 hours in the original.  Outwitting the cops in the 145+ missions took some serious skill and teamwork, and Overkill is pretty cool in getting involved with the game community.  (They've gotten involved with charity streams and such, pledging themselves and even offering up signed memorabilia to donators)

I have of course pre-ordered this one.  Hopefully we can scream cloaker at the top of our lungs still.

Oh ho ho, but don't try to return the shoes, because they won't take them back once you've worn them.
Especially if that fat pig Tony is at the desk.

I'll probably keep my usual "never pre-order anything" pledge, but I might pick this game up shortly after release if there aren't any horribly-negative reviews. Especially since the basic edition is only $29.99...

The first Payday was actually great fun, though these days there don't seem to be many players when the game isn't on sale/free weekend. It was basically L4D, except the 'zombies' shot back and the maps had more interesting objectives. The new game looks like there's a lot more focus on planning the crime and, if you want, outright avoiding combat through stealth. If there's a good variety of maps, I could see this being a very enjoyable game.

(PS: Is anyone interested in playing the original? It's 75% off right now, so it's only $5.00 until May 30th. And it's a lot of fun to play with friends.  :) )

Never picked up the first one, but it always looked kind of interesting. The addition of skills and the other semi-rpg mechanics they talk about sound really great. I like team/class based games, and if I can convince some of my like-minded friends to pick this up too it looks like it could be pretty great.

Too bad they don't offer any benefit to preordering, so I'll probably wait until a week or two after this is released to see what the reception was.

Really looking forward to this, looks like the perfect 4 player crime co-op.

I love the fact you have to specialise, too. So there will be frantic messaging of friends trying to get them in on your next job!

Look like the forum ate the post I made here. Anyway, I'll probably pre-order this one, which is quite rare since I only preoreder only once before, since I absolutely loved the first game and this is looking like it'll be at the very least as good as the first, but hopefuly much better. And if anyone wishes to play the first payday, I am available.
