Yeah, I wasn't too sure about the games, but I decided to back out when I saw that they had to be redeemed on some service I had never even heard of. And now with Sappho's story, it doesn't look like Groupees will be getting any of my money this time.

Alright, I managed to make it work. I had to use yet another email address... Third time's the charm.

So the Shinyloot web site is kind of buggy and confusing, but it's worth it for the bundle. You redeem the code from Groupees and they give you the keys for Steam/Desura and/or download links for DRM free. You don't need to give them any personal or financial information or download any software, and the game download links work fine.

I wouldn't buy from this site, but I don't regret getting the bundle that requires going through the site just this once.

I got a Gun Monkeys gift from that bundle linked by Anvilfolk. Does anyone here want it?

The current Groupees Shinyloot bundle looks pretty great too. I just picked up the $1 games. I've been wanting to try Fortix2 for a while so that should be fun.

Mark Leung is worth the $2. You should also check out his video stuff (College Saga) on youtube or wherever he's hosting them. He makes fun of Final Fantasy and JRPG's in general in a really funny way.
Shinyloot annoys me because it's yet another portal I have to get through to claim a game. :/  Just give me a download link, Groupees!

There's also this secret Humble Bundle to support Brandon Boyer (IGF Chairman), who got fucked by his insurance before the ACA rules kicked in, and un-support his cancer. https://www.humblebundle.com/devolver
Humble Mobile is not terrible. Hopefully it gets better.

Update: I actually got a very quick response from the support team about my difficulty activating my account. They said I might have clicked the activation link twice, so the reason for the error was that the account was already active. They suggested that I try to log in and see if it worked. Surprisingly, it did. I say surprisingly because I most certainly did not click the link twice. (If I had, it would have opened up two new tabs on my browser - a dead giveaway.)

So in their favor is the fact that I got a quick response from support, not an automated message. However, their system is not very functional. A failure to activate an account should always provide more information than simply "it didn't work," and there should definitely be a way to re-send the activation email.

I replied to the support email with a lengthy, polite, but direct summary of the problems with their site, why it's bad for them, and how I think they should change it. I'd be interested to see if it makes a difference. I get the feeling this is a small company, maybe just a few people, or even just one. It's possible they're shady and shouldn't be trusted, but also possible they're honest entrepreneurs who aren't doing a very good job just yet. In any case, I got my activation keys and I don't plan to go back to the site again anytime soon. Maybe I'll check in in a few months...

Humble Mobile is not terrible. Hopefully it gets better.

Being a big fan of the original Rainbow 6 games (before they went all arcadey in "vegas"), I've been wanting to try out Breach and Clear for a long time.  Unfortunately, I can't at the moment stop playing Zombie Gunship.

for this alone, the Humble Mobile is awesome.

A copy of Magicka: Wizard Wars has appeared in my Steam library from someplace.
I'm guessing it was a bonus game in the Bundle Stars bundle, but whatever the case it seems pretty fun! Now, if only I could actually find someone to play against...

I just recently got a smartphone for the first time, so I picked up that bundle to try this games on phones thing out.

It's like someone took the joy from playing with the AC130 in CoD and distilled it down to a pure form.

Humble Mobile got a very nice upgrade. Olo looks like a fun dexterity game for 2 or 4. Gunslugs looks fun. Color Sheep has a neat rainbow gimmick.

Humble Weekly Bundle is music games. Symphony, Sequence, and Bit.Trip Runner, plus Audiosurf, Beat Hazard Ultra, and Retro/Grade if you beat the average.

I already have Sequence and it's so insane it stresses me out. You have to manage three separate windows with falling arrows that you have to hit to either heal yourself, gain mana, or protect yourself against attacks. You can cast spells to attack, but you have to hit their key sequences perfectly or they fail. It's seriously difficult, but a good challenge if you like rhythm games.

I haven't played Symphony yet but it looks awesome. A very clean-looking shooter generated based on your music files. I'll be trying this in a bit.

I think everyone knows about Bit.Trip Runner already. Run, jump, avoid hazards, collect gold. I have Runner 2, and I'm looking forward to trying out its predecessor, although it looks even more difficult.

I have Audiosurf already, Beat Hazard looks too chaotic for me, and Retro/Grade doesn't really interest me, so I won't be beating the average.

The current main Humble Bundle is eBooks again, which got me excited until I saw which books. Most of them don't look terribly interesting this time around, with the notable exception of Zombies vs. Unicorns. So I guess that's worth a dollar.

One more post to add that Symphony is excellent. Well worth $1 for the steam key. It's extremely polished, works very well, allows you to select difficulty levels, and has a larger story arc - there is a demon infesting your music files. Now and then when you play a song, a demon will attack you and you'll have a boss fight right in the middle of the level. Works surprisingly well even with mellow music, but with electronic it's epic (I find it particularly fun with dubstep).

I just want to add that Retro/Grade is rather good, if under-appreciated. It's especially fun to play using a Guitar Hero guitar. First time I've steered a spaceship using a guitar ;)

The Humble Weekly sale looks pretty good. Neo Scavenger, Evoland, and more.
