Indie Gala Weekly.

If you don't have Magicka, now is probably the time.

I want to love Paradox Interactive. I really do. They either makes games in genres I enjoy (Warlock, Magicka) or games that I'd love to get into because they sound so interesting (Crusader Kings, Europa Universalis).

And yet. Their grand strategy games are nearly impenetrable to someone who doesn't have the time or desire to scour a wiki for several hours to learn the basics (yeah I know, these are the DF forums, but its not the same). And NONE of their games work properly or with any real speed on my computer, even with all settings reduced to minimum. Hell, I just tried to fire up Warlock and the freaking terrain was constantly glitching out. Mountains should not be switching to oceans and back every other second.

I don't really regret tossing some money their way in the recent Humble Weekly sale, but it sucks that as of now I cannot play anything they have to offer.

You can significantly reduce the load of Crusader Kings II by opening the settings.txt file and changing "draw_trees=yes" to no. Disabling other things like bloom, rivers and postfx will also likely help a good deal.

Already have the Superbox, but this is cheaper than the Superbox has ever been so you should buy this.

I really wouldn't like another game to suck all my free time, but I've been looking at the X series for so long :(

How much capital ship piloting and influencing the game universe can you do? Can you create your own faction? Fight other factions, conquer territory?

Depends on when/if you get a capital ship, then there's piloting of it. It's a sandbox, and while there is a campaign, they don't give you a capital ship (although I've only played X3: AP and only the main campaign for that).

You are your own faction, sort of. You buy your own ships, you set the AI orders for ships you're not actively piloting, you can build your own factories, you can build your own shipyards, etc.

You can fight whoever you want to, and there are several factions that start hostile depending on your start (There are some preset starts you can choose from. There's also a 'custom start' I believe). You can declare war on an entire race if you want. There are war mechanics in X3: AP, but I believe it's only between the Argon and the Terrans and it's not well-managed (fixed by mods). X3: TC I believe has way more faction war stuff, but AP is the improved version, so *shrug*

Conquering territory, other than the war mechanics, involves you either out-competing all of the economic factories in an area and you just dominate the trade completely so you pretty much own the sector, or you just blow up everything in a sector. It's not easy though, it's definitely an all-out war between an entire faction and you if you want to go hostile.

conquer territory?

You'll need a mod for that.

The X bundle comes with two keys, so look elsewhere if you're wanting to give away spares.

One key is for the games everyone gets and one is for BTA.

New Bundle of Holding, this time for games using the GUMSHOE system.

Includes Ashen Stars, a one year subscription to Ken Writes About Stuff, Mutant City Blues, and See Page XX.
Beat the average includes Night's Black Agents and a mission supplement for it, Zalozhniy Quartet.

I had never heard of this system before but Ashen Stars and Mutant City Blues look like they're probably pretty good.

Trail of Cthulhu looked pretty good. Too bad it isn't included.

They hint that there will be additional stuff added, so I wouldn't write that off being included.

There's a new Indie Royale.

I wouldn't have bought it, but every subscriber to the newsletter should have received two keys. As a consequence, I have a free copy to the first person who asks for it. All games are Desura-only, though four are on Greenlight. I doubt if this will give you access if the games are greenlit, though.

The usual qualifications - no Escaped Lunatics, must have had an account before this posting.
