Well, it certainly blows the "developers deserve money from second hand sales" argument out of the water. Not only is the argument dubious at best, but its not even happening regardless. Also what if you wanted to sell your game to a friend privately?

Apparently Microsoft have made themselves entitled to the money made through resales despite not deserving a cent.

resold at just 10% less than new? Its just price fixing. Its not really a used game "market" anymore.

Stores have a variety of different prices, and after enough time $60 games usually sell new for $20.

I will be surprised if MS doesn't loosen up on their handling of the used game market.

Hell at 10% less than new the big box stores that sell games in the back (Walmart, Bestbuy, BJ's Wholesale) would be a better deal, because the damn "free" (Just gives us your address so we can collect marketing info and send spam to your mailbox) membership cards already give that discount. So I might as well buy new. Not that I buy my games from anyone other than Uncle Gaben and Granpa Greenman. But still.

Anyone buying the Xbone deserves what they get.
But this, is needless bashing.
It's fact. You buy a product, you deserve to get that product in its entirety.

I also approve of the console being referred to as Xbone. It's a lovely nickname.

Its always great when companies provide an easy sarcastic and derogatory name for their product. Saves time on being creative.

Just figured I'd drop this here:

http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/main

Quote
With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies.

I'm not even going to get into the game trading sections.

There needs to be a unified boycott over this. I know plenty of people are planning to do it already but something with organization would convince more not to buy into this shit.

I'm not buying a console ever again (not that I ever did, technically).  I'm also against touch computers too though, so I hope they come out with my style of computer (not windows 8, although I never used one, so I wouldn't know much about them).  I like typing on a keyboard with a mouse to click.

Used games and why they are a bad thing for the games industry. Watch the whole damm thing then post something, please. Just a FYI, I agree with him.

I gave him about 10 minutes. Normally I don't have a problem with TB style speeches, but I couldn't keep listening. I get his argument. It's based on his previous experience at a brick and mortar store, which I've not experienced when I went to game stores. In truth I don't really care about the used game market much anymore, because I haven't been a real console gamer in...like a decade. Used PC game sales were once a thing but the industry killed that shit pretty quickly, and that's been the reality since I was a kid. (Instead it has piracy, yay.)

Still, I think TB's argument pretty much overstates the impact of used game sales. Guys who make xxx million in their release month aren't hurting that bad for cash because a dying industry pushes used game sales over new. For them that's the best business model: lowest price for the customer, highest profit for them. For a game a company already made a profit on, that is extra. It's not *dipping* into their pocket.

Either way, it's a moot point. One industry is clearly going to be here and thriving in a decade. The other is going to be something old guys talk about.

I haven't seen the video in a few days but he brought up some things I hadn't considered before.

If a person who would have bought a new copy buys a used copy instead, then the publishers/devs don't get any profit from it, that's basically the big deal here.

Yeah, they aren't hurting for money, but that's not the issue.

So what? This standard isn't applied to any other kind of product. If you sell a product, you have the right to sell it once, but where it goes after that is quite frankly none of your business.

As for Total Halibut, he's an ultra-bigtime "gaming network" pawn and his bullshit is biased industry-sanctioned tripe.

So what if he's biased, does that lower the validity of his argument? Are the points he raises worse because he has an agenda?

His arguments are already invalid, but his naked agenda just makes it infuriating on top of everything else.

It's essential that the console is bashed needlessly as much as possible. Console gamer culture must ostracize those who support the console in order to make any boycott effective. Any boycott must focus on hating the console as much as possible so that nobody wants to go against the tide and therefore be hated by the boycott, at least until microsoft caves in and gets rid of the DRM stuff. It's clear that gamers don't like always online DRM, yet if they buy it anyway and no sentiment against it unites strongly to curtail sales then the DRM will become commonplace and accepted.
