Jabberers and cave dragons no longer in the game?
« on: May 21, 2013, 01:14:56 am »

I was in the object testing arena and noticed that jabberers and cave dragons weren't on the list.  I just checked the subterranean creature raws and didn't see them there either.  Were they removed from the game?

Jabberers and cave dragons are in the creature_next_underground file, and are also arena restricted. I've even had an adventurer kill a cave dragon once in the current version, so no, they're still there, just hard to get at.

Yeah, I recently spent a year failing to breed jabberers.  Man, I want my own war jabberer army.

as they are not [UBIQUITOUS], at least I don't think they are, Jabberers and Cave Dragons are not guaranteed to appear on every embark however.

Is it still possible, with enough time, for some to spawn randomly at cavern edges?

you'd need to do the export-thing that makes a text file of population lists (then check your embark site) I believe.  At least this works for surface animals.

I can only see the world pop for them, nothing specific.

14338 cave dragons

I can see my civ listed at the bottom of the lairs list.
5818: Ucatolmul, "Beerbath", mountain halls
Owner: The Mighty Belches of Destruction, dwarves
Parent Civ: The Basic Board, dwarves

but that's about it.

Ah, so with set population limits for all creatures that spawn in the caverns, is it possible to hunt/capture them all eventually and make the caverns free of all wild enemies, except for Forgotten Beasts?

Speaking with a complete lack of experience and knowledge of these particular things I would say it is possible but extremely unlikely unless you run your fort for 10,000 years or so.    :o

Oh, you were editing while I was posting, so I didn't see the 14k dragon number.  Yeah, that would take a LONG time, heheh ;D.

perhaps its the export local image option?  Its been a long time since I've done it, but you can get biome specific populations

see here's the thing though, cave dragons have [POPULATION_NUMBER:2:5]

According to a response from the modding forum, this should mean that you can have between 2-5 cave dragons per biome you're embarked over.  But unless you have well over 3000 zones in your world (more if not each one has cave dragons), that wouldn't make sense.

I just checked out the legends export and I've got over 14k cave dragons and 18k jabberers for world pops.  Export local image appears to be just the bitmap image, though.  I've been googling all over the place, but I can't find info on how to export biome specific populations.  Checking on the modding forum now.
