Okay. So. Imma try to source what I can to respectable sources and give a general overview. Bear in mind, knowledge about this time period is unfortunately shaky and pretty much founded on paintings, accounts in books depicting the time period, and the surviving manuals that exist of the time.

Also, I'm no expert, nor do I count as myself as anything but an armchair when it comes to this stuff. Take what I say with a grain of salt, look at the sources and go from there if you want the real nitty gritty instead of my skimmed retelling.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

To bear in mind with the above: This was all written with the perspective of reality, when you bring magic and fantastical might into the question, things get a little blurry. If plate or chain was often gotten through due to crazy strength or magic, you'd either see it magically hardened against such assault or changed in favor of cheaper armor that protects well enough such as Lamellar.

A sturdy cuirass with an arming doublet underneath probably won't stop a full power swing from a giant, after all, nothing really would. Of course, I'd rather take that than wearing nothing at all if one must get hit.

Apologies for the length.

Magical protections and magical assaults are probably going to go right alongside more mundane means, in it's own arms race of sorts.

Sturdy enough cuirass might not break...but you would. And go flying. But hey, at least your chest cavity's not caved in; just your shoulders and ribs are broken, instead. And your hips. And your limbs, from landing. So...yeah, you're still gonna die.

Also, as a note; there was a reason the longbow was used. Just from the stuff on wikipedia, though I'm certain there's other resources if you look up stuff about longbows rather than stuff about chainmail, basically this was the thing; Longbows could, with bodkin tips, penetrate mail and the like. They could thus injure knights on horseback by hitting them in the arms and legs and other vulnerable areas(struggling to avoid using olde englishe spelling because it feels so necessary), but certainly not in the breastplate or helm or anything like that.

Personally, I'm a fan of the crossbow, though they each have their uses in their individual scenarios.

I'd suggest the source link under the chain, it had a rather interesting section about arrows and chainmail that you may find interesting. It also talks about how it stacks up against lance and sword.

Here, some french guys herp-derping around in plate armor.

Oh wow. I knew that people could do cartwheels and stuff in plate, but didn't know it was that maneuverable. Figured there would be some issue twisting or turning in that thing, but they seem to have little to no problems. Also awesome, besagews! You don't see them often.

That's just asking for someone with an axe to cut your arms off.

That's the thing-plate isn't actually all that bad for maneuverability. Anyway, sometime I'll get to updating the armor stats to be a bit more fair, since that seems to be the majority opinion.
That picture of linothorax has the SHAPE of true, Greek lamellar armor. Lamellar armor is a Greek invention, it was made of layers of cloth, leather, and metal. It was so effective because it could take care of arrow fire extremely well, and when coupled with the Greek's full-face Corinthian helmet and bronze-and-wood shield, it made a very dangerous opponent. When in a phalanx, line after line of spearmen, nobody with an axe could GET close. They got stabbed by two lines of hoplites, slammed with shields, and pushed back by 7 lines of Greek bronze.
The mightiest army in the world was held up for days, and only made it past when they outflanked the Greeks. (Battle of Thermopylae)
So yeah, arms were a secondary concern, because the shield covered the left arm, and your buddy's shield covered your right. When you weren't making people feel bad with your spear.
Yeah, the Greek's were very good with what they did.
EDITS:
The Greek system was developed and used in the mountains, they only fought identical armies, or when they could prevent the enemy from outmaneuvering them. Again, Thermopylae, where 6-7 thousand Greeks in a phalanx fighting formation held of hundreds of thousands of Persians, only retreating when their position became impossible for any army to hold.
Updated (Lowered) stats a bit, changed flaws to be more...interesting (backstory-heavy).

Further edit:
Yes, Gamerlord, I like lamellar armor. Mostly because I also like Ancient Greek fighting methods and machines. Now I wants myself a Xiphos sword. Nice, iron, double-edged... Maybe in a two-handed version... :)
And yes, the Roman system was better, because it was more mobile even than Phillip II of Macedonia's fighting machine, which became Alexander the Great's fighting machine when Phillip died. The Greek system, however, was older, less-developed, and possibly even as good as the Roman system in Greece itself, where maneuverability isn't much, as the battlefields can easier be chosen to be advantageous to a more heavily-armed and armored force. Again, that is what happened twice, at Marathon and Thermopylae. Anyway, I'm done being a salesman for Greek stuff now. ;)

Are... are you some kind of salesman for lamellar? Gotta say though, the entirety of the Greek Hoplite system was kinda ridiculous - just push a couple of boulders down on them or flank with cavalry. In fact, the Hoplite system is incredibly weak against overwhelming numbers. A 2 - 1 numerical advantage would utterly blitz a phalanx just by surrounding it and cutting at the sides. The Roman system was quite a bit better at fighting larger numbers.

Can anybody give me a step-by-step breakdown of what Projecters and Summoners do? Or even link me pages that would explain it.

*sigh*

It's entirely flavor, man. Auric/Ki abilities are Projectors, Summoners are about what you'd expect.bthey summon things.

No, I mean what exactly do Projecters do. Do they project? Create? What?
I get that it's flavour. What I don't get is what they actually do.

They project, they're auric. They use ki to create fireballs, or stone barriers, or whatever. That's it. It's like asking what a Psion does. They do psionics. Explaining more than that requires enough effort and background research that I don't want to bother with it.

I imagine Auric abilities working like Avatar: The Last Airbender style powers, except with more thn just the four basic elements, and the ability to create things out of nothing.

Thanks for the explanation then.
Also, what is Intuitive Aether? I see it mentioned a few times, but searching the thread turned up nothing. Or is this another 'purely flavour' thing?
Edit: Wait, nevermind, I figured it out.

Actually, what'd ya find for int-aether? And I'm not sure about summoners. Are creations timed as in many vidya, or permanent?

You mean like firebenders?
