Ok so I need some advice!

I have a caravan tunnel but I'm not sure caravans can travel up and down ramps?  Does a 3 wide set of ramps provide access for a wagon to go up and down z levels for a caravan?  The actual hole in the floor is only 3 x 1 I'm not sure if I need to dig out a 3 x 3 space on the higher z level!

3x1 is enough, it just has to be 3 wide, not 3 long. In fact the ramps don't even have to be next to eachother

R= ramp
F= floor

a diagonal down slope like that is completely passable for wagons too. Try it in the mountains some time, it looks funny. The thing is, it seems to only actually travel with the middle tile, you must have noticed the back disappearing into the hill when it's going down or sticking in the air when going up. As long as all places can be reached from the central tile it'll fold itself along the landscape

Ok so need some more advice!

I have a fey mood dwarf and the only thing on the list that I'm not sure I have is dye!  (rough color)  Now I have some dimple cups but I can't mill them, the mill says I have no unrotten milliable item.  The dimple cups don't say they are rotten!

So I need some advice on that, I have got the cups in a stockpile of their own next to the mill set to supply the mill!

I also need more general advice on labours!  When my fort was smallish, I used to be careful to set only the labours I wanted, now i'm larger I tend to leave most of the migrants alone, turning off only the really annoying things like fishing and other suicide outdoors labour types!

Is this the best way to go or should I turn off all labours and only have mostly specialized dwarfs?  Again only leave the current labours I'm using turned on?

I just had a terible scare that cost me two dwarfs cos despite having 50 odd idle dwarfs no one managed to water a sodding buffalo calf!

the water buffalo needs to graze, it has nothing to do with water

use dwarf therapist for easy labor assignment. My motto is always 'don't do what you're good at, do what I want you to do'. If there are a lot of highly skilled weaver migrants, great, but I need more masons. So, do what I want, not what you're good at. In general with many labors it's best to have a few specialists instead of a lot of novices.

do you have bags for the dye?

a mood will never ask for dye. I'd guess he wants gems, rough or cut (rough in your case). The wiki has a list what means what. dfhack has a showmood command to see it in all details. wiki page:

Are you sure the body is unforbidden?
