I did a cursory inspection and found a lot of the things you said were missing in the manual.

Screenshot

1: Weapons & Armor
2: General Changes - Creature Spawning
3: Plants & Trees (Missing Hellwood as far as I can tell)
4: Embark Screen

Last Second Edit: I found the other types of wood under 'Material Guides' at the bottom of General Changes.

If there's anything else you think is missing, I'll attempt to find it for you.

Well, the cannons can be made kind-of now, in the gomish artificer.

Hellwood is not in the plants, because there is no tree... its only the wood, you get it in some random reactions from the temple. Its very dense and valueable, so good for decorations or ballista bolts.

Thank you for clarifying, I haven't gotten the gnomish artificer or used hell wood as I'm still new to the mod. I've found the manual very useful personally and I'm really enjoying it so far.

Thank you then. :) The manual was quite a bit of work and I dont even know what to add, whithout blowing it completely out of proportion.

My bad, I guess it is in there. Some just wasn't where I expected to find it.

For example, I thought the "creatures" section would contain the information about the turrets etc.

What's driving me nuts is that I don't see a single toolkit available with a single merchant caravan.

Is there any way I can hack them into my game or something like that?

It's useful but there are just certain things that Dwarf Fortress in general is very vague about, and Masterwork is too.

Some information that would be helpful would be more in depth weapon information.

What exactly is the point in the hammer throwers, spear throwers etc?

When I took a look in the raws, it seemed to me that the only ranged weapon worth having was the Javelin thrower.

Does the Bola thrower have a special effect of some kind?

I tried this fix for the Crucible, but it hasn't changed anything.

Do I need to build a new one? Or perhaps it won't fit it until I create a new world?

Have you tried asking the caravans to bring you some? If you give them a lot of profit during trades, I believe they'll bring more. When you talk to the diplomat, set a few of the things you really want to 'high priority' and they should bring them.

I don't know a lot about the trading mechanics but that's worked for me in the past. Try using the 'Embassy' to call for new caravans as well.

Edit: Also, I think a lot of the weapons come down to personal preference, even if javelin throwers are the best, I'm sure there's someone out there that would love hammer-throwing dwarves... Like me.

I don't think I've even seen Toolkits in the list of stuff to pick from, though it could be they just got lost amongst the 10000 kinds of animal on offer. Now that I have an embassy I suppose I have that as an option... but speaking of which, what exactly is the cost of calling a caravan to turn up? What is it paid in?

In other news, I now have a rune weaponry and rune armoury.

But although I have steel bars, I cannot put steel runes on anything. Can someone explain what I am doing wrong?

To clarify, I cannot put ANY runes on ANYTHING. Everything in the list is red. Despite that I have weapons sitting right by the forge, I have a trained Runesmith, and I have metal bars.

A few things... If you're using the 'give to/take from' Workshop/Stockpile options, make sure one of the stockpiles has fuel for the runeforges.

Caravans cost coins of any type. It'll say 'rock coins' and in this case 'rock' means metal. It should be pretty easy to do.

EDIT: Using the embassy in general costs coins, not just caravans.

Oh I see, so I do actually mint coins for a useful reason!

Anyway, as for the runeforge, no, I haven't set up linked stockpiles yet.

Although, come to think of it, maybe it's just that somehow the fuel has run out. Could have sworn I had a blast furnace going... I best check on it.

Fffffffffuuuuuuuuu....

Yes, it was that the fuel had run out. I don't think I got a notification for the forging stopping. How annoying. Oh well, easily solved.

Happens to the best of us. I had that same issue when I was doing runeforging but I was using linked stockpiles and was stumped for 10 minutes until I realized my error...

I don't suppose there's any way to get adamantine without actually digging it out? No way to buy it from caravans, I mean.

Ditto magma. I can't build a bifrost forge until I dig stupidly deep and find magma naturally? This makes the magma creating Armok's blood gems a lot less useful.

Back in my day we had to build a 100-plus depth pump stack to get deep magma up to the surface, not just dig down and look at it  once ;D

You can probably unlock magma buildings using DFHack, as well as generate adamantine from thin air if the mood strikes you.
