First I want to say that it is because of this thread that I've gotten back in DF with the eager hunger to play Masterwork.
I'm in the same boat as Owl. I'm wanting a menu system to easily launch utilities and fiddle with basic options without having to edit all the raws.
Its cause of this thread that I've been chugging away at trying to hybrid Masterwork to Launch on Macnewbie.
1. Download Macnewbie 0.8.2 & Masterwork (Mac)
2. Extract both.
3. Make a new folder called [swapped items]: we'll be swapping a few files and I never like the idea of overwriting files.
4. In the Macnewbie folder, rename the [dwarf fortress] folder to something like [dwarf fortress original macnewbie] and move it into the [swapped items] folder.
5. Take the [dwarf fortress] folder from the Masterwork folder and drop it into the Macnewbie folder.
6. Now open up the [dwarf fortress] you just moved. Take the [df] file, the [hack] folder, the [stonesense] folder and move them into the [swapped items] folder.
7. From the [dwarf fortress original macnewbie] folder take the [df] file, the [hack] folder, the [stonesense] folder and move them into the [dwarf fortress] folder.
8. Launch Macnewbie.
The program has the 'phoebus' tile set loaded by default. Do NOT try and install phoebus tile set on top of it's self it will cause terrible things in the game and caused me like 2 hours of headache. Its already loaded, don't touch it. With that said I havn't really tried to load other tile sets or anything. If you do try and load the phoebus tile set, it causes wicked tile set glitches, flashing squares, screwed up layers blah blah blah.
Its extremely important that you turn 'truetype' off - otherwise when you play and press the
key you crash.
....though at the expense of MacNewbie's ability to automatically start DFHack on launch. I'll look at an earlier version of MacNewbie (I remember you used to have to start DFHack from the utilities menu),.....
Whats awesome is this workaround gets Macnewbie to launch in DFhack mode from the start.
Some times when in world gen, it'll crash; but just restart and it should work. These minor crashes don't bother me much.
You need to swap and replace the stonesense folder otherwise DFhack won't load the plugin for some reason.
I'm sure this method isn't perfect and it might run into problems but for now, my fort is 2 years, and I havn't run into any game breaking crashes. Just some really minor ones in world gen. There you go, that's my hybrid step by step.
slash.... what the crap is warpstone, I got really excited when I first saw it, then I just really sad when I mined it.
