I would really like to update the official mac version, the last one is 2h or so. ^^

This is getting ridiculous:
removed every reaction/material/interaction from the 3g raws that has SPATTER in it. Even replaced the spatter string in the language files as I was trying to narrow down the cause of the crash. Searching for spatter in the raws folder now returns zero hits. And that goddamn add_spatter plugin still crashes upon worldgen/load.

With 2h raws I can load a 24 years old fort and create a new world...

So my conclusion for now: it's not the spatter reactions that crash the game, but instead the plugin finds a random string that it tries to interpret as a spatter reaction, fails and crashes. My hunch is that this bug was introduced with v3.0, but I don't have the raws to test 2i or 3.0, only 3a.

Ag said that any products on reactions with spatter-add crash the game. I got all of them with the patched 3g. Thanks to your heads-up. I have no idea why else that plugin should crash anything.  :-\ Why not make a 3g version without poisons/runes? Because an update from 2h to 3g adds a ton more stuff then you would remove.

Looks like I've been away from this thread for a while, but I have a new idea:
I'm thinking of turning this into an installer, which would make downloading and upgrading much less of a hassle (as well as packaging on my end). It will eventually support automatic updates, which would be a lot easier than downloading a 50+MB file for every release. Hopefully, it'll let you choose which things you want to install - you could install just the raws, add dfhack and DT if you want them, etc. This will also make it easier for me to update the package, since I wouldn't have to be constantly rearranging everything for each new version.
I'll make this into a poll, but let me know if you have any other questions about it.

There was a typo in the siegers' campfire code. When the fires went out, so did the game.

Hello!

So: I've been playing DF on windows for a while.  Since I have to sit in a room doing nothing for about 6 hours a night recently, I decided to try and get MDF running on my mac.  I have gotten the game + mod up and running, based on the link at the top of the thread.  However, DwarfTherapist (from the little launcher that pops when launching from the Dwarf Fortress app in the MDF folder) won't connect.  It gives an error message saying it cannot connect to my version of DF.

I think I have MDF Mac v3b r1, based on the readme_mac.txt.  Am I using the right version of the mod?  The right version of DTherapist?  Am I missing something?

Thanks!

Fricy, thanks for the help.  Unfortunately it didn't work.  Two error messages for you, both happen after Dwarf Therapist launches.

The first is from the version that is inside the MDF folder, from the link at the top of the thread:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The second is from the link you gave in your previous post:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Not sure where to go from there, but I though it might help if you are trying to build out the pack that has everything :).

Another question, not sure if it actually mac related, but:

It seems the default settings are to have harder farming turned on in the Mac version.  That's cool.  But because I was trying to jumpstart my fort, I went into the raws to reduce the [GROWDUR] tags to 1008 to make things a little more manageable on the food front.  It seems this doesn't work.  I understand it not working for previously planted stuff, but it should work for stuff planted after a raw edit, no?  Or am I way off base in trying to manual adjust the settings via raws?

First I want to say that it is because of this thread that I've gotten back in DF with the eager hunger to play Masterwork.

I'm in the same boat as Owl. I'm wanting a menu system to easily launch utilities and fiddle with basic options without having to edit all the raws.

Its cause of this thread that I've been chugging away at trying to hybrid Masterwork to Launch on Macnewbie.

1. Download    Macnewbie    0.8.2           &       Masterwork (Mac)

2. Extract both.

3. Make a new folder called [swapped items]: we'll be swapping a few files and I never like the idea of overwriting files.

4. In the Macnewbie folder, rename the [dwarf fortress] folder to something like [dwarf fortress original macnewbie] and move it into the [swapped items] folder.

5. Take the [dwarf fortress] folder from the Masterwork folder and drop it into the Macnewbie folder.

6. Now open up the [dwarf fortress] you just moved. Take the [df] file, the [hack] folder, the [stonesense] folder and move them into the [swapped items] folder.

7. From the [dwarf fortress original macnewbie] folder take the [df] file, the [hack] folder, the [stonesense] folder and move them into the [dwarf fortress] folder.

8. Launch Macnewbie.
The program has the 'phoebus' tile set loaded by default. Do NOT try and install phoebus tile set on top of it's self it will cause terrible things in the game and caused me like 2 hours of headache. Its already loaded, don't touch it. With that said I havn't really tried to load other tile sets or anything. If you do try and load the phoebus tile set, it causes wicked tile set glitches, flashing squares, screwed up layers blah blah blah.
Its extremely important that you turn 'truetype' off - otherwise when you play and press the key you crash.

....though at the expense of MacNewbie's ability to automatically start DFHack on launch. I'll look at an earlier version of MacNewbie (I remember you used to have to start DFHack from the utilities menu),.....

Whats awesome is this workaround gets Macnewbie to launch in DFhack mode from the start.

Some times when in world gen, it'll crash; but just restart and it should work. These minor crashes don't bother me much.

You need to swap and replace the stonesense folder otherwise DFhack won't load the plugin for some reason.

I'm sure this method isn't perfect and it might run into problems but for now, my fort is 2 years, and I havn't run into any game breaking crashes. Just some really minor ones in world gen. There you go, that's my hybrid step by step.

slash.... what the crap is warpstone, I got really excited when I first saw it, then I just really sad when I mined it.

There are three warpstones. Weak => miner gets sick. Unstable => miner dies. Stable => leaves a stone for the warpstone pool, landmines and turrets. Masons Guild miners (which are specially trained) are immune to warpstone, they dont die.

And if someone upload a working MAC version for Masterwork I'll update the release post to include it. You guys just have to let me know.

could warpstone be like damp/hot rock, which cancel the desination when discovered?

Micromanagement is so painful when mining though a warpstone vein.

Just plow through it with masons-guild miners. Or ignore it and dig somewhere else.

@Senefelder: Thx for the input, here are some tips:

When I make a new Macnewbie version I usually make sure to include any dfhack scripts in the Materwork mod, but still I'd recommend to manually copy any scripts I have missing: Check and merge any folders in /hacks except for plugins --- those files are windows only, I have the mac versions included whenever I have them. Plus there's a new bugfix version (v36) of the UI plugins by falconne since the latest release, I'd recommend installing that too. http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=7248

Open dfhack.init of both Masterwork(win) and Macnewbie in textedit. Some settings are disabled, some keybinds don't work the way they should on mac. Find any missing settings and apply from the win version as necessary, except for the binary patches section at the bottom of the init file. Those don't have a mac version.

Stonesense: Haven't tested yet, should work on 10.7+ if you copy the windows version into macnewbie.

Graphic packs: The ones included in Macnewbie won't work with masterwork, and the launcher has some strict restriction when checking the packs, so no easy way to change the looks yet. There are some plans, but no timeline yet.

ATTENTION: Due to a mysterious bug you won't be able to use runes and poisoned weapons on mac, plus autobutcher, digging invaders and the new lighting system won't work. Can't help, tried compiling these plugins, but I'm unable to solve the problems that arose. :(

Re: MW mod on mac: I'd love to be able to provide a working mac version, unfortunately some plugins and a working ui is missing, along with the still unresolved add-spatter crash, and I'd rather not support a half-working release, that I have no hope of fixing. Sorry guys. :(

I've started on a sort-of-web-based settings manager. It does almost nothing at the moment, but I'm hoping to get an installer and settings manager working eventually. If you're interested in beta-testing (well, more like pre-pre-alpha-testing), you can find it here. It requires python (2.7 is pre-installed on most Macs, but 3 might work too), and Django. Django 1.5 is fine, and pip is fairly straightforward. If pip doesn't work, just copy the 'django' folder from the download into the top-level MDFSettings folder (not the subfolder).
I'm really only interested in compatibility at this point (there aren't any useful features yet), but if you want to try it out, I'd appreciate any feedback. I'll add this to the main post once it becomes more useful.
