Consider me a permanent -1 to exposing ourselves, unless otherwise stated.

Scout 1: You hide back in the vent shaft and observe.

Scout 2:  The Queen gets up and leaves the room, inhaling air loudly.

Scout 1, several minutes later: The Human Queen enters its personal room, flops on the soft surface, and before long, is making an interesting noise, apparently having induced a state of unconsciousness on itself. It still retains its outer garments. You briefly consider murderous thoughts, then realize a moment after that killing the Queen is bound to cause some serious alarms to go off.

Scout 2: With the Queen gone, the humans seem more relaxed, talking more loudly and making "ha" mouth-sounds. Oddly enough, despite their laxity, the work continues, possibly more smoothly than before. Interesting... perhaps these Humans are too primitive to have a proper hive-mind and only seek to imitate it?

Scout 3: You loosen a few plugs and await a response.

Hours pass.

Scout 1: The Human Queen is still out cold. You're honestly not sure what more can be gained from observing the Queen, but have no reason to leave. One eye scans the human books, revealing lots of typed words, none of which you even remotely begin to understand. It would seem that the humans have no need to write down their words for your convenient translation. What a shame.

Scout 2: By this time, the Mind behind you has decided that the stations that are constantly manned appear to be some sort of navigational computers. This conclusion has been reached by the view of the screen, which showed some sort of map, and the attention constantly paid to it. The liquid dispensing machine seems to be some sort of liquid food synthesizer, which contains some sort of stimulant. The human laxity has reduced the efficiency of the drones by this point, although the chatter has subsided.

Scout 3: The repair crew has come into the room, and systematically scour the room for any troubles. The loose plugs are restored; one of them causes the dim lights to be returned to full brightness. The rest seem to have no particular consequences, although you're sure it's something important, judging by the fact that the sensation of motion stopped when they entered and all of the lines, including those not meddled with, are tested by some sort of device.

How long will we remain functional in the native hive without acquiring additional sustenance?

[Sated - Current
Not Hungry - Day 13
Hungry - Day 14
Extremely Hungry - Day 15
Starving - Day 16
Near-Death - Day 17

Levels below "Not Hungry" impair control and function; Starving and Near-Death Kai are nigh impossible to control, incredibly sluggish, and will eat anything and everything in sensory range unless specifically ordered not to and constantly monitored.]

If current activity continues, how long will the native hive continue to approach our hive?

[They're headed away from the Hive.

1.5 Days - Day 11
2.4 Days - Current
2.7 days- Day 13
3 days - Day 14
3.5 days - Day 15
3.8 days - Day 16
4 days - Day 17

This is based on the assumption they will continue in the direction they are going, of course.]

We should remain hidden and monitor their actions for another day and then depart.

Agreed. Not as much came from this as hoped, but maybe we'll be able to dissect the humans language somewhat on further examination of the acquired materials back at the hive. Do we have any apparatus that would allow us to brute force decode the language from a living subjects brain by association? (ie, force them to look at book and pick out the sounds and associations they think of). The process doesn't have to end with a living subject either, if that makes more methods available. If such a thing is within our abilities I would say to drag off the human they find closest to the escape point for further "language studies".

As Kai of the Body, I propose that we get living test subjects, sabotage the vessel, then leave to do our experiments.
Because biological warfare is fun! We could attach a dormant Flower to their brain stems. Or create some sort of plague that lies dormant for a while then kills entire populations after a delay.

Doubt it.

But pulling information from their brain might be interesting, since we have that whole hive-mind telepathy thing going, and apparently we're good with information processing.
Can we rip information from living being's minds?

-1 to sabotage, if we can *definately* get info from a live specimen, nabbing one might be worth it.

You can attempt to do so. Keep in mind, it's less "Filter through the brain and find LANGUAGE" and more "Attempt to download brain, THEN look through everything to try to find something language-like."

In other words: you can try, but barring exceptional luck, it's probably not going to be very helpful. Also, file "Psychic Scout" under possible variants, given your question.

Hmm, do we have to bring them back, or can we do this while they're still on their ship and we're still in our hive?

-secondary question; do we know if such an action would be tiring? Could we rip the minds from each member of the crew, one by one?

My apologies, I don't understand.

Well, imagine trying to download 2.5 petabytes (best offhand guess at human brain storage) with a 28k dial-up with hardcore packet loss. That's a crude analogy for what you are dealing with right now.

EDIT: By the way, that would take about 880,827.5 years to do, if you were curious.

New possible variant: Psychic Scout. It has a modified brain structure to allow for greater mind-sendings, transmission, and possession by the Hivemind.

So having access to the brain would at least speed things up? :P

Seriously though, if we had the subject in Our appendages how much more readily could we pick through its mind? If We can sustain the Hive Mind We must be capable of a fair bit of data transfer.
