Bum-fluff or baldness?
« on: May 14, 2013, 03:19:14 am »

So I'm one of those people that doesn't manage to grow facial hair as well as other. I'm 18 and have seen many of my friends with your standard facial hair, and then there's that one guy that had a full beard by the time he was 16.
But what I want advice on is this: I'm at the stage where facial hair doesn't grow on me well enough to look all that good, it also comes out blonde for some reason so it's not very visible. Is it worth keeping the slightly-unsightly barely-visible bum-fluff or just shaving when needed until the point where facial hair grows on me properly?

Shave it.
The rumor is that shaving hair actually makes it grow thicker next time, not sure if this is true. Either way, just letting it sit there isn't going to help. Might as well shave it.

I didn't get decent facial hair until the age of 20, and now I can Tony Stark, but I can't really Ned Stark.

Well, it only gets thicker because your beard follicles mature up with passing time, so it doesn't really do anything other than improving your presentability. :P
Anyways, you should probably just shave it, unless you're lazy and/or don't care. It's common for students to not shave all that often, as evidenced by a large percentage of the males in my class. (myself notwithstanding, my facial hair isn't fully implemented yet, so it looks better as stubble)

My facial hair looks like pubes when I grow it out, so I try not to let that happen.

Don't tell me that! I would like to imagine that your facial hair actually grows into kittens.

It took me like 6 months of awkward facial hair before I got a reasonable looking goatee and sideburns going.

It's probably better to shave, unless it grows in such a way that it looks good.

I'm 26, and I can grow an awesome beard, with reasonable sideburns. Unfortunately, my cheeks and around my mouth come in blonde, though proper beard-type hair.

This also gives the slightly bizarre effect on my chin in which, at the sides, the hair is a lovely auburny-brown colour, while in the middle it's blonde.

It pains me so...

The rumour is false.

Until you can grow a complete goatee (that's mo AND chin, mind; one or the other has NOT worked since Magnum PI was a thing), you're better shaving it off. Trust me, bum fluff never looks good.

If it grows reasonably thick there, but still not enough, then invest in electric clippers, and clip to ~0.4cm. It will look a better clipped to a short length even if it isn't that full, while growing it out will just make it look like you have a rat strapped to your face.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of scragglefuzz.

Go big or go home. Or in beard terms, go Brian Blessed or clean-shaven.

fixed that for you my good man

Also, you don't necessarily have to go COMPLETELY clean-shaven, i basically have perma-stubble myself. Why? Because it itches like all fuck when i go for a clean shave.

If you look super young while shaved, the face fuzz can make you look a couple years older. You'll also look very scraggly, but hey, sometimes being scraggly is preferable to being 18 and looking 15.

Wow, I really need to look at avatars more closely.

I have a 30 year old friend that if he grows a beard out looks like a 15 year old wearing a bad fake beard.

I look like a teenager when I shave, it's presently quite annoying. I imagine in a few years I won't really mind, though.

Evidently, given a recent appraisal by a customer where I work, I look like a woman, too. I'll never get used to that...

My facial hair gives me two options: shaven, or peachy fuzzball.

No facial hair for me~
