Fandoms are usually pretty similar in behavior, so it's easy to draw similarities between most large fandoms.

I think there's especially a lot of similarities between these two, though, in particular. Based in large part around aesthetic sensibilities. Being seen as little more than an excuse to look at perverse erotica, and that every fan is a sexual deviant. Chock full of social rejects and desperately needy folks who bring up their stuff in inappropriate places and at inappropriate times bringing derision of the fandom as a whole. Fascination with something a bit alien to their existent cultural norms, and an attraction to the foreign and "deviant".

 (Note: In the minds of many folks still, and especially in past years, anime was practically defined by hentai, though they generally dealt with accusations of pedophilia instead of beastality)

The only real difference between them is that the anime fandom as a whole (in large part guided by the anime industry, I'd wager) finally managed to seize a hold of their image and rehabilitate their appearance a bit, and distance themselves from their worst element. Basically, anime successfully managed to go mainstream. Other than that, they're practically identical. It wouldn't exactly be a stretch of the imagination to see furry having taken control of their message and anime instead becoming the kicking bag of the internet - most of the slurs and disgust with either are pretty interchangeable.

If bodily modification is crucial to someone's psychological stability, then alright. If it's for fun and games and we're not in a utopia, I'll be further irritated.

But, if you'll forgive me...I'm not entirely sure what the intended subject matter for version 2 of this thread is. I only remember seeing two posters in the entirety of the original thread who identified as furries, and prior to the questionnaire most of the posts from everyone else were simply agreeing that we don't really have a problem with it.

So...umm...what else is there to talk about?

That's something I've been wondering too.  Even assuming there's a significant furry contingent on B12, do they need a specific thread to talk specifically about furry?  If they converse as furries about nonfurry topics do they need their own thing?  And without that, are they just gonna murr and paw at each other?  Maybe it's just my non-furriness talking, but I can't really conceive of what conversation the thread could really have beyond what we've been talking about.

Yeah, I'm not entirely certain what the aim of the topic is myself.

No, I have no beef with you guys, but as it is right now, there seems like there's nothing to discuss, and previous thread was closed due to the discussion of sexy anthropomorphic beasts and the images thereof.

I suppose if I was to have an issue with this thread, it'd be that I question its need to exist at all.

What constitutes "furry" discussion? What do furries have/need to discuss in a casual environment like this that wouldn't be better suited for a more specialized forum or private discussion? Is there non-sexual "furry" media that could only be enjoyed in the context of being a furry and not otherwise, that would require a thread to be talked about?

So far we just have 6 pages of what is a furry and do we think they're awful and really nothing else aside from the tired controversy that always goes hand in hand with furries, and I don't know. It just gives me the "I like something and I want to be in a special group for it and stop hating us!" vibe that makes me want to dislike "furries", as well as other fandoms/interests that try to evolve into a "culture" as if they're really anything special or separate.

I mean I don't dislike "furries" inherently. Depending on the requirements I might even qualify as one. But I just look at this thread and think "what the hell is the point". Why do you need to know someone is a furry and what is really gained from it. Does it really matter at all. Honestly, I might just be apathetic to the point of being bitter, but I just don't get it.

TL;DR: "Is there really anything to talk about, or are you just trying to round up people who might like anthromorphic animals more than the average person just because?"

Though I guess now that last question's answer has been confirmed to be the latter so I guess I think it's even more pointless now.
