I was having a lot of trouble with recording volume, as apparently my good mic needs a special amp. I have found a temporary solution, and will have a video up today.

That said, this is not UFO: Defence. This is UFO: Aftermath. There are no Crysalids. This game is... different.

Things I learned:
- Microsoft Movie Makes takes 1 hour to export a video, and completely kills the quality :|
- Grenades are hard
- Chompers love basketball

Regretfully, I was not able to record the intro, nor to splice the video (which I was forced to snag from youtube due to lack of other sources) into the Let's Play. I will probably upload it on its own, I"m still holding out hope that Altar will respond to my email and be kind enough to provide me with nice .avi files for the cinematics.

In the mean time, we have had our first taste of combat! I entered this very warily, as my initial test run ended very poorly. But the combat went well, and Boksi has proven himself to be good with a shotgun. There are a LOT of missions awaiting our attention, and I'm a bit worried about how that will impact the progress of the game through videos. I might do the simpler missions off-screen, we'll see how it goes.

I tried to get the free version of fraps, and it only seems to record in 30-second chunks :|
Maybe my computer just sucks.

The sound quality is 100% due to the mic. I'm using the built in mic on my headset while I'm waiting to get a mic amplifier from my father. (Today). The video quality is probably related to the various settings I've been looking at. I'll screw around with everything, and see if I can make the next video even better.

Which reminds me... I wonder if I can boost the game quality using my video card...

I've heard pretty unpleasant things about FRAPS. It kills computer speed. The files are too large. The licensing can be a pain. D3DGear came pretty highly recommended in the LP community.

Uploading episode 2 while trying to record episode 3. I also am trying FRAPS, but apparently the files it's creating are HUGE! I have been using my SSD hoping to benefit from the speed, but I don't think that will be an option. They look better, and sound better, so I'll find space.

Let's Play UFO Aftermath, Episode 2

Combat is going exceedingly well, in part because I'm being so cautious. We have a new base, and can now detect UFO's. Which, however, does not help us much. The first UFO wing we have encountered has made extremely short work of our interceptor wing. This worries me, as it shows just how superior the enemy air ships are... but who pilots them? Transgenants we have encountered so far can barely think or fight. I suspect our true enemy pilots those crafts.


Also I realized I messed up the naming system - which I will amend in the coming episode.

For one, I hope you don't mind but I intend to put you in a game as a scientist. Probably as Barry the Baptist
And er, I don't know it that well. I haven't played in many years and don't remember the end-game at all. Could use spoilers without explicit instructions.

I do know there are multiple endings, and I intend to finish with the "easy" one for story continuation - and see if I can beat it on the hard one.

Eventually there will be some terrain modification. You need to participate in a mission that occurs on modified terrain and then follow the resulting research chain. You can generate missions on modified terrain by manipulating your interceptors to try to fight over the terrain, but it is jolly difficult. Or you can try to focus on missions near it, but that relies on pure chance...

It sure feels like it! My tester game ended very quickly and messily, but this one is going along quite nicely. I had already "done" episode 3, which failed due to recording woes - but that also went well.

Not in the air, though. Haven't been able to shoot anything down yet.

You can launch multiple interceptors against a single target, try clicking on the target, or possibly on the base you want to launch from. Also, I think that there is a button to manually shoot at a specific target, see what happens if you hold down the shift, control, or alt buttons while clicking on the scenery...
