((I didn't have time to put in a description, but I like what you did so I'll keep it!))

A gnarly looking dwarf, bigger than most of the other dwarves present in the building, tromps inside while scratching his chin through his beard. His scratching stops as he pulls out someone else's tooth found in the curls of his beard and upon inspection, he tosses it aside casually without a second glance.

Fargrim the dwarf also heads to the bar and takes a seat right up against it to pass a bit of time listening to the people around him talking, keeping an ear open for anything interesting/worthwhile.

Joe walks up to the casino, taking in the facade of mysticism draping it.
I have a good feelin'abaht this place, man. It has good vibrations, just filled with playin' cahd enahgy.
He checks in at the hotel, buys himself some chips, and heads to the Blackjack table to try his luck.

Kyle walks in. "Why would anyone put such a nice place in the middle of the dessert is beyond me." Kyle looks around for awhile. "Hmm... I'm getting kind of low on cash." Kyle heads to the bar to steal some money from some drunk person and have a whiskey.

((I was still hammering out the details, but this works for now. I suppose I'll allude to the bits I've gotten pinned down.))

Thymu was on leave, thank goodness. He was stuck on Earth for the time being, and had made the most of it...by working hard and endlessly. He was taking some time off, mandated by the psychiatrist, but Thymu didn't do well without work to be done. He entered the hotel and looked around at the wide variety of people walking past. Most were, of course, humans, but a few dwarves and elves were present, as were smaller numbers of rarer races. To his utter lack of surprise, Thymu was the sole Dragonborn present.

Thymu wasn't one for idle leisure, but there weren't many other options. He
looked around to see what activities were available to do and for any interesting or dangerous-looking individuals.

((It's alright. It's possible that a Bostonian accent in this universe (filled with elves and dwarves and other fantastic creatures, no less) sounds different than a Bostonian accent in our universe. xD

Safely ensconced in a corner booth, the cat leaned closer to Weston and did something that cats most definitely weren't supposed to do:

"So what's this 'plan' of yours? You said you had a reason for coming to this blasted desert, and I assume it wasn't for the climate."

Weston took a sip from his glass of iced water and smiled. "Why, for all the beautiful waitresses, of course. Come now Honor, why else would I do anything?"

Honor (for that was the cat's name) bopped him on the nose with her paw. It was her equivalent of a smack upside the head. "I'm serious! You had a good job back in Salt Lake, but when you heard about this hotel you dropped everything to come running over here. Please don't tell me you're thinking of robbing the place."

"Of course not. Call it...call it a gut feeling. I knew that I should be here for a matter of importance. What that matter is, however..." He spread his hands. "No idea."

As far as dialogue goes, I'm fine with how you did it. If your cat wants to talk to someone else, though, it'd make more sense to have to go through you.

Update soon.

Update The Second

Weston: "Of course not. Call it...call it a gut feeling. I knew that I should be here for a matter of importance. What that matter is, however..." He spread his hands. "No idea."

Weston finishes his iced water, and notices a shady-looking human walking suspiciously around the bar.

Fargrim: Fargrim the dwarf also heads to the bar and takes a seat right up against it to pass a bit of time listening to the people around him talking, keeping an ear open for anything interesting/worthwhile.

"Hey, did you catch the game last night?"
"...highs in the 90s and 100s this week..."
"...rolling blackouts today."
"You really thing the blackouts are due to the heat? We've gone through heat like this before, and this never happened."

Fargrim's ears pick up at the mention of the blackouts, as he hadn't heard about them.

"It's gotta be something they're doing over at that military base." "Which base?" "You know, Area 51!" "Dude, you're drunk. Nothing ever goes on there. It's an urban legend at best." "No way man, I saw some weird lights coming from there last night!" "Yeah, and you'll see some weird lights from your fridge tonight. Let's get you home."

Joe: Joe walks up to the casino, taking in the facade of mysticism draping it. I have a good feelin'abaht this place, man. It has good vibrations, just filled with playin' cahd enahgy. He checks in at the hotel, buys himself some chips, and heads to the Blackjack table to try his luck.

Roll: 8, 13, 18: At first, your luck is rubbish, but after a bit of playing, you earn your money back, plus an extra 10 gold.

Kyle: Kyle heads to the bar to steal some money from some drunk person and have a whiskey.

Roll: 12: The drunk notices your hand as you're pulling the money out. "'ay, wutsa doin in mah pocketsh?"

Thymu: Thymu wasn't one for idle leisure, but there weren't many other options. He looked around to see what activities were available to do and for any interesting or dangerous-looking individuals.

Well, for starters, there's a large casino, full of slot machines and card tables. Also there's a bar, where an angry-looking drunkard is confronting a shady-looking human.

That's fine. I wasn't planning to have my familiar talk when near other people anyway. I just figured being able to communicate with it directly in Common would allow me to give orders to it without having to then explain to the rest of the party what I'm having it do. It would also allow others to communicate with it, which might come in handy.

Aren't familiars able to speak in their own language (Cat)?

Not according to the rulebook:
Quote
Communication: You and your familiar can speak to one another in a special arcane language. Other creatures hear only gibberish from you, and grunts and squeaks from your familiar. Your familiar doesn't understand other languages, but can parrot back what it hears, allowing you to understand anything it repeats back to you in a language you know.
I can accept familiars being unable to use human speech, but the idea that an intelligent magical creature simply can't understand any language is a little ludicrous.

Yeah, I don't think that was in the previous edition.

EDIT: Nope.
Quote
A familiar is a normal animal that gains new powers and becomes a magical beast when summoned to service by a Sorceror or Wizard. It retains the appearance, hit dice, base attack bonus, base save bonuses, skills, and feats of the normal animal it once was, but it is treated as a magical beast.

It gains the power of telepathy with similar animals at level 7, but it doesn't say anything about that there.

Familiars are very different in 4e. They can't attack and have only 1HP, but gain the defenses and skills of the owner and are essentially immortal (being "killed" simply makes them disappear, and they reappear after a short rest). They can also have obviously supernatural appearances (thus Honor's eyes and the mark on her head), though not to the point where, say, an owl suddenly sprouts several arms and two long legs.

Maybe it was his natural instincts, maybe it was his tendency to follow rules--when it didn't stop his objectives--or maybe it was just that he hadn't been doing anything for too long, but Thymu felt that he had to do something. He approaches the drunkard and the shady guy.

"What's going on here?"
