Naw not all 320mm, thats why I wanna design a new cannon for it, something with high velocity but a smaller size so it can still handle enemy armor at a decent range.

I kinda like that lind of optimism.

1 round per two minutes for the gun with 20km range.... (5 rounds per minute is beyond optimism)
Fail to understand the logic of AP shells, maybe concrete piercing shells?
Also fail to understand why this gun needs anti-bullet armor and how that possible

I'm thinking he meant he wanted to increase crew protection with a gun shield.

Edit: RAM, I'd prefer to go with the Courageous+ lighter escorts( a frigate/destroyer with smaller 160mm guns). We could make a lighter escort first though...

Also, Brood, I'm not opposed to planning the ABILITY of putting smaller, higher velocity cannons on a ship, but it's a good idea to design a ship around existing tech, since there's no guarantee that the gun will be voted on(or completed in that turn).

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

True but with a large ship refitting the guns afterwards would take a lot more work then it's actually worth, not to mention a massive redesign for the new gun itself since the ship is built for something different.

We can build a different ship for the new guns. This is just a design that can compete with the current ships the enemy has until we get something better than what they have(that will also require getting a bigger shipyard as well)

We have an 8000 ton yard, it's only being used for repair now but it only needs some minor work to bring it up to production standards.

Yes, gun shield, have a skirt around the firing mechanisms so that the crew can use it as a light bunker against ambushes, concealment against strafing, and shrapnel protection against near-misses with explosive ordnance.

My frigate would be for small operations where a fleet would be excessive. Such as hunting individual ships, patrolling remote waters, hunting merchantmen, patrolling shipping lanes, and just keeping something generic on hand to bulk up a damaged or heavily engaged fleet. I would want both if I had the choice, as these really aren't designed to stand and fight

Brood, that's our refit yard. We'd need to build another yard for refits if we convert that one

As for a light general combatant that can stand in fleets or operate solo, I had this in mind:

Messenger class Escort Destroyer. An approximately 2000 ton vessel designed to replace our outdated Alexi designs, with an improved hull capable of mounting two twin-160mm turrets, 4 open-mount HVG-80s, 4 twin-HVG40s in an open mount, 4 GVS-25 Jackhammers(if approved) or 8 GVS-14's, 4 torpedo tubes+reloads, a hedgehog mount, 2 depth-charge racks, a double hull for torpedo protection, as well as radar and sonar and a decent amount of armor while still prioritizing speed and operational range.

I know, but if I design a ship that needs a bigger yard it's easier to refit the current one and begin production straight away then wait 3-4 years to build a big enough new one just to begin production on a ship thats already out dated.

True. Though, if you do that make sure a production proposal DOES include building a refit yard big enough to service that design

Yes, but mine has cool triple turrets and more range on its main gun and probably more speed. Mine is primarily designed for solitary operations and yours is primarily designed for fleets I suppose... Which is why mine is a frigate and yours is a destroyer!

Ukrainian, were you going to propose a command airship?

Dude, double 160mm is more than enough for solo raiding. Though, if you're REALLY not sure on that light of a fire, how bout I have a contingent Main armament of twin 240mms? Nice compromise between 160 and 320(though I'd prefer to base the main guns on current tech)

All right, here are my design proposals for this turn. Comments as always appreciated; I will probably post them in about three to four hours:

Proximity Fuze: Design a proximity detonation system, for use in bombs and (if possible) artillery / AA shells.
Design it with a Maximum distance of up to 3m and an accuracy of about the same, and concentrate on weight savings. Try something under a half kg. Further improvements go into weight.

Plus,

Aircraft-launched rocket. Develop a fairly light rocket (ca. 50-60kg), to be launched from aircraft. The rocket should provide a pretty even flight curve, which'd result in a better range compared to bombs - vital against the AA thread. Develop two warheads, one a shaped charge against tanks (is the accuracy good enough for that?), one proximity detonated HE against soft targets.

I'm all for a command airship and artillery rockets, but someone else wanted to propose them. Post them here, and I can do that for you, though, if you have other ideas, too.

RAM, I am reasonably sure that 10ebbor10 will propose the command airship. I prefer to propose simple but important things that few players care about

The whole idea of frigate with 320mm gun isn't very feasible for me, Note that our current cruiser, cruiser, has serious problems firing that monster. (BTW RAM no one uses your weird naming scheme)

Interesting, will Kahn1234 post the very same proposals again?

Well, she(and how do you know that UR :P) did propose a 240mm howitzer IIRC, so that'd be a subproposal of RAMs. But other than that I'd give her even odds

Also, that's why I designed a new cruiser class able to handle the recoil and weight of firing a monster 320mm(taking lessons learned with the Glorious)
