Coffins in Dining Hall
« on: May 08, 2013, 11:14:00 am »

I like to put my non burial chamber coffins in my dining hall.

Anything I should worry about if I do this?

Its just a pity you can't use the coffins as tables. Save space and add aesthetic flavour!

if they're very valuable coffins your dwarfs will get happy thoughts from seeing them

I like that idea! Gold coffins for everyone to see!

I guess you can only control who gets buried by making it into a tomb, right? which would then decrease dining room value by making it a shared room?

if you make it a 1 tile tomb the value loss should be limited to the tile of the coffin and the coffin, probably not worth worrying about

As OP says non-burial, I don't see any of those problems.  Although assuming that they are 'reject' coffins, they might not be as valuable room-boosters as their non-reject cousins, actually being used.  Space used would be a problem.  If not for pathing (except I don't think they're solid like statues), then for just being there so you can't put tables/chairs/stockpiles in the same spot.  And if that's a serious problem, then you've done something wrong.  But can correct it. ;)

Coffins aren't solid. Slabs are.

Bomrek has been happy lately. He dined on a favourite uncle recently.

Can I sub that?

Would the corpse of the coffin inhabitant add value to it? If a pet with valuable bones died and it was laid to rest in a coffin would it be more valuable?

No, the corpse is just container contents, not value-adding furniture decoration.  Although that would be pretty cool if it worked.

I'm using them burials, just not making rooms of them.

Also coffins do block pathing... ( I need to do all my smoothing/ engraving first).  My dining rooms tend to be stupidly large... so I'm not to worried abour fort space.

Shame I can't put them outside... I could line the road to the Trade depot with them.
