Oh god what the hell happened.

She lives, and yet she is not! Her body is missing in its entirety!

Maybe if she reproduces, you could breed a new dwarf master race.

Blue Dwarf has been happy lately. He did some !!science!! recently. He admired a fine forum post lately. He was enraged by a forum troll recently. He was upset by the delayed release of the new version of Dwarf Fortress lately. He took joy in planning a noble's death recently.

Please post the savegame. If you continue to play, she might die (because she is "winded"), and then we wouldn't have the opportunity to examine this in more detail.

She is an anomaly in space-time.

Won't something like this happen if you toggle the dead flag off on a unit that died of something not particularly traumatic (say, still has all their body parts)?

I've heard of stranger things happening without mods or utilities though...

Is...

Is this what "Basically unbreakable" dwarves are capable of!?!?

This needs science.  A lot of science.  Followed by an exorcism, because there is something... unnatural... about a dwarf missing her upper body and still being alive.

Science first though.  Don't want to waste an opportunity like this.

Why not combine the two - a scientific exorcism! Scum save the World and test how to kill her with varieties of drowning, dropping (her and/or things on her ), weapons etc. Also, is she undead already or simply hard to kill - on this thought is she a legendary Wrestler performing martial arts - Aikidō maybe? Can you burn her with holy water (red water from deep underground)? So many questions that need answers...

Yeah, I checked the save, definitely alive.

Spoiler: health tab (click to show/hide)

I tried to pour lava on her, but she floated to the main fortress because of a snowstorm before I could get magmasafe pump components. She doesn't obey burrows either because she can't do any job. She still gets hungry and thirsty, but I haven't seen her sleep. Her thirst went away after a while, but she doesn't have the happy thought of being fed. Very odd.

No reports, no announcements... I'm guessing memory hacks.

I am using no hacks that I know of.  I was running a new fortress quickly and not paying complete attention so I don't know what the injury was.
