When I think of ancient prosthetics , I think of basically flame-throwers launching Greek fire through prosthetic siphons attached to the arms of heavily armoured knights as archers with prosthetic bows or crossbows fire arrows and bolts down upon the elephant riding Persians Elves. This is possibly the dwarfiest thing I could think of.

'Do you want to know how I lost this arm? No? Nevermind, it was in the year 234 during the siege of...'
I'm just imagining a dwarf holding an elf with an axe to its shoulder saying "Did I ever tell you how I lost this arm?"

My imagination went with "Did I ever tell you how you lost your arm?"

Well yeah, then the elf would lose his arm... after a long lecture from the dwarf on how he lost his arm.
Dwarf: "You see, my father was an alcoholic..."
Elf: "Wait, aren't you all alcoholics?"
Dwarf: "Yeah, so what?"
Dwarf continues with story
Dwarf: "Why so serious?"
Dwarf cuts off elf's arm.

I don't think the type of artificial limb should rely on the skill level; the type should reflect the culture, like how dwarfs use crossbows instead of bows.

Goetz's arm thing could be made by dwarf mechanics.
Hooks would be made by human and goblin craftsmen.
Elfs wouldn't use wood or mine for metal so they continue stumped.

Elfs wouldn't use wood or mine for metal so they continue stumped.
...Or ask their tree gods to grow them a wooden hand.
Goblins would probably tie a knife or something to the stump, or just copy humans and use hooks.
And kobolds would just steal one from the other races.

Those ideas are cool. Only knifes though? I'm sure the craftsgoblin is mad enough to make a hand replacement out of anything,  even a goblin bone axe made out of the severed part; that would make goblin invasions very interesting since long-surviving warriors (or anybody, really) tend to stack up crippling wounds.

Imagine a dwarf with every possible mutilation getting prostethics.  :p

Also, maybe for more advanced prostethics, a mechanic would have to put some things togetether.
On that note, a dwarven robocop comes to mind. :p

Eye patch is made of cloth and made at craftdwarfs workshop. For the sake of good fun, let's say one can sew images onto them.

What's that I hear? Planepacked eyepatch?

"...and those who dared to look upon his missing eye, they wouldn't just see an eyepatch with an image, no. They would see images within images that continued into immeasureable detail that no mere dwarf could be able to make."
