Your favorite creepy game moments/Easter Eggs
« on: May 04, 2013, 11:36:12 pm »

What are your favorite creepy bits in games? Here I'm not talking about games that are just plain creepy, but rather Easter Eggs or unintentional glitches that cause quite the creepy. For example:
1) In Luigi's Mansion, nevermind the fact that the game takes place in a haunted house, there is one scene where, if you wait long enough during a dialogue box scene, the lightning effect will flash and you see Luigi's shadow apparently hanging from the ceiling.

2) In Fallout 3, there is an entire side quest that references the works of H. P. Lovecraft, with an obelisk that makes chanting sounds and a mind-warping book. The above is also referenced in a set of audiologs that concern a fellow following his father who has the book. See also: crashed flying saucer broadcasting alien signals. Seriously.

So, what are yours?

P.S. if anyone has the definitive lowdown on the FO3 "numbers station", I would really appreciate it. I know that that is apparently a hoax, but I still would like to know where that started.

How about the fact that the Iron Knuckles in the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time contain the wide-eyed bodies of Gerudo women?

There was a Spore GA adventure referencing both the Andromeda Strain and The Thing called 'It Came From The Sky'.
Surprisingly creepy for a Spore thing.

I read TAS for my H-Biology class last semester. How did it tie in with Spore?

I forget honestly; I haven't played the adventure in a while.

It wasn't a direct correlation, but if I remember correctly you get called down to an outpost where the researchers are being killed off by a strange disease. You follow these clumps of biomatter to the alien that crashed near the outpost who was the carrier, and you also find a kid who's immune to the disease, and then you have to escort the two of them to your ship while fighting off the researchers who have become zombies. Something like that, I forgot a lot of the details

On the topic of FO3, try looking on the ground in front of the Vault doors. Look for signs. Notice what they say.

While I haven't played the game, I remember "Red Dead Redemption" had quite a few... odd bugs when it came out.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zI9ZgzxIfOM Behold the amazing Donkey Lady!

I believe there was a few other ones with NPC's who were using bird animations and the like.

Also, in "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask" the statues your created using the... was it a song on the ocarina? They had creepy/funny faces.

I just found those funny, to be honest.

Ok this one wasn't intentionally designed into the game (partially)

But I was playing Fatal Frame 3 and a woman was designed to climb out of a well (with spoiler too, as it actually reveals events that haven't happened yet... but it is appropriate for the game) when you got to a certain distance.

Yet I went towards it in my Camera view, somehow went around the cue and very close to the well as I wanted to look inside it. I hit the inner point of the cue and she just burst out and I seriously jumped!

I honestly thought they did that on purpose until I played that scene again and found that you can actually cause the ghost to pop from the well from further away... I just found an odd way to activate it.

I am a total wimp when it comes to horror... as a tribute to that I have yet to finish a single horror game I ever bought for myself.

Well ok Dead Rising MAY count but it isn't a real horror game to me. Sure it has zombies but they never present you with feelings of dread or fear. It is what I like to call "Horror because it has a horror monster in it".

Psychonauts, Milla's dance party's secret room.    :o  :o  :o

So dark for what is otherwise such an upbeat game.

In a freeware point-n-click called The White Chamber (seriously good, check it out if you're a horror and/or adventure fan), there's one part where you have to enter a security code that you normally don't have when you first discover the security console. If you've already beaten the game, you can enter the code early and something fucked up and creepy as shit fun and silly happens.

Also, is it just me or is dying for the first time in DF Adventure mode really creepy? In most games, you fight just fine until you reach zero health and die instantly. DF really simulates the feeling of dying by degrees, crawling helplessly until you bleed out or suffocate. If DF were made as a horror game it'd be one of the best.
