My aunt owns an island in Bass Strait (between mainland Australia and Tasmania). It's pretty cool, about 40 acres IIRC.

I'm surprised there's no one living on them already. I always tend to assume humans are everywhere unless stated otherwise.

For nearly 1000 pounds (roughly 1500 dollars or 1190 euros) you too can buy a near mint condition copy of "SD Gundam Dimension War", a Japanese-exclusive turn based strategy game for the Virtual Boy and one of its better games.

Maybe you want to watch Hollywood blockbusters the day they come out in theaters, but don't want to suffer the agony of mixing with the lower classes by actually sitting in front of a screen with them. With Prima Cinema, you can watch those movies in the comfort of your own mansion the day they're released. You just have to pay $35.000 for the box, plus two fingerprints (since the box is opened with your fingerprints, nothing that a lower-class yob could hack) and $500 per film.

Somehow I feel I've won the thread. There are more expensive things, and more useless things, but is there anything here that is more expensive and even more pointless?

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

I think the shark gloves are more expensive and pointless though.

They're only about a thousand dollars, though.

Though they have negative usefulness, so.

I do have to say, the island yacht would be pretty flippin' sweet. You would need a helicopter to make use of the conveniently placed balcony that can be used as a helipad, though.

It says finger print scanner with LIVENESS DETECTOR. What the fuck? So you don't get killed for your movies?

I have a kid. Does that count? It's almost as expensive as a yacht, and with negative usefulness.

Nah, somewhere in the 10-12 year range they become semi-useful-ish until about high school graduation, at which point it goes back to negative usefulness until they start making some money themselves.

Also, going to certain colleges out of state is an expression of decadence. My sister's friend's father likened it to driving a Mercedes off a cliff each year

I could have gone to Oxford or Cambridge but my family worked out it would cost us about 9000 pounds a year, plus accomodation/travel. You need to be made of money for such things.

Oxbridge don't charge more than any other university, really.  Although they are fairly expensive towns.
