And the million dollar stretch goal:

Quote
Persistent, Connected World: We'll offer the option to host your game on our own servers (this may require a fee). All hosted games can choose to participate in entirely new gameplay modes with other hosted cities!

Here are some of the things we're thinking about:

   * Your cooperative games will be available all the time, not just when the computer serving the game is on
   * Establish alliances and supply-routes between friendly, player controlled cities
   * Trade in the global economy that spans all hosted games
   * Band several cities together to create your own Empires

I mean, look at us.  You give us a young child and a puppy, and we produce, possibly, one of the biggest sins against nature the game has ever seen.

Honestly I don't like or care for that stretch goal.

Where they COULD instead be making their multiplayer genuinely good (which they are not) they are instead going for that approach.

It is like asking for chocolate Icecream and someone just gives you a big tub of strawberry.

Sure it is more icecream then you asked... but it isn't the amount but rather the flavor... And I want dang Multiplayer and not MMO.

For once, I utterly agree with Neonivek.  Does anyone else remember hearing how Double Fine ended up over-promising on their kickstarter and now they've run out of money?  With all the stuff this two-man studio claims it's going to add, I can very easily see this happening.  A lot of this stuff takes time, money, and people.  More time, money, and personnel than they've got.

OK, I have to reload the save.
There was a bit of a problem regarding flashfreezing, a ballistae, and a barrel of dwarven ale. Gonna fix it up.

Wait, they ran out of money?

They've already brought a third person onto the team IIRC.

But yeah, they realised this ~$360,000 and decreased the amount of stretch goals in their next tiers.

This is definitely not a thing that has happened. Or rather, they've dealt with any shortages in funding through making some smart deals and doing stuff like the Amnesia Fortnight and Double Fine Humble Bundles (As well as all proceeds from Brutal Legend PC going to this game as well)

The first thing that came to mind after I read that was a recent city building game with a similar multiplayer system, and we all know how badly that turned out.

So, as of now there are sixteen hours to go before the Kickstarter finishes. To take a guess, I'd say they're at about $700,000 including PayPal donations (which count toward stretch goals). That leaves $50,000 and two weeks between us and the Dwarven frontier.

Virtual Pizza Party has revealed the following details (updated as I watch):
  • There are three people currently on the team. They hope that they can get two or three more people on the team.
  • Theoretical default pop cap is fifty people (or perhaps fifty significant people).
  • They want to make sure that the player can actually recognise their villagers and cares what the interior of the buildings looks like.
  • Caravans can come to your town and you should be able to send off caravans of your own.
  • Black powder technology confirmed (via engineer).
  • Technology is vaguely 1600's with fantasy tech (magma forge) included. No predator drones, unfortunately.
  • You will be able to grow your own trees (via forester/geomancer).
  • Damn, that pizza looks tasty.
  • Will resources be depleted? "I hope not." "Running the map dry is not fun."
  • Villagers will do 'idle activities' when bored and not working. The example given was kite flying.

Shit, I guess I won't be able to toss in my $15. Darn paypals and their making me wait a week for my money.

Well it'll probably be a first day buy for me anyhow.
They take donations directly through PayPal, and this method will be continuing for another two weeks.

Seven hours to go and it is still technically possible for them to make it to Dwarves.

They only need 10k

Dwarves? I fully suspect that Dwarves is just going to be a 4th race.

Well, I'm not backing the KS because I'm concerned about the scope vs. the small amount of time they're giving themselves to make the game (primarily that they may have gotten in over their heads with the promised netcode). That said, it will be a day 1 buy if they do release it and meet their goals.

I just hope those stretch goals can be turned off in-game :/

Stretch goals usually really excite me... but most of SH's don't. I hope it's easily moddable, because the three human kingdoms will be the first thing to go in my game if possible.
