Spring:

I rule now. The last two chiefs have made the tribe lavishly rich, but it from my corsairs raiding. I guess they figured putting a corsair in charge would keep me boys from rioting or sailing for better shores.

Looking around the tribal palisade, I can't help but think us corsairs must be as much a different species from our brethren as the Uruks and the Snaga. My brethren are fierce, they build strong walls and forge masterwork weapons, our industry clouds the skies with smoke and from the bones of our enemies we produce an endless bounty.

Why then do we have a sense for business and pragmatism and they don't? Someone took the trouble to build us a side tunnel to siphon water from the river, but not a well. Two years with no well, drinking upstream from where we piss, or from raided booze. Now that the damn dwarf prisoners have been put to work, the raided booze is fast gone, and half the tribe is moaning about it.  I order a well to be built.

The shamans chant and commune all night, but neither mind the stockpiles nor organize the workers, craftsmen and snaga, as is their duty. I give them with thrones made of polished bone in offices made with smoothed and engraved stone. The workmen carve some...interesting things up there.

Good to know our tribal symbol is ballista parts: the very thing from which our raiding ships our built!

I needed to get some building orders out, and send some workers to our cove for a few months, but thought that some of the uruk's might find me plans objectionable, so I sent all the tall blokes to explore or caves. They came back all happy they caught and smushed a few gremlins. One of them saw fit to mention they found a cavern too:

I don't like caverns: better the sea and the sky. I had a small outpost built for digging around, and had the snaga set a few cages, just in case something useful wonders by.

While I was busy rummaging around underground, a runner from the surface told me there was trouble.

Guess they followed the goblin merchants and they were too dumb to notice. I sent the uruks back fast. Good thing too, cause it turned out things on the surface were getting a little crowded cause the frogs invited more frogs along:

Navatar rallied our warriors: "Hold still now! Let them enter and witness our glory and wealth, and let them despair, before we smash them and cut them! Wait now and once the frogs cross our bridge and into our palisade, fall upon on them and let their bones fly back across!

Deep Blue and Crazy Wolf lead our shamans. Solemn and quiet they stood on the edge of the well, surrounded by snaga with bows. It was the shamans that struck first, with Crazy Wolf draining their chief of his strength:

One of the new recruits, a migrant Uruk roared suddenly in rage. He didn't and couldn't see a frogman, yet, so what did he get so angry over? A fly. He got angry over a fucking fly and damn near got our chief killed:

Stupid berk charged and all the others broke line and charged with'im. The uruks tore into them over the bridge and cut right through, moving out of the range of our archers and shamans:

I saw Navatar get pushed into a pond along with two of her men, by no less than eight frogs, and the frogs knew how to swim, whereas our boys didn't. Drowning or not, the Uruks know to fight. They cut down four frogs quick, but more kept coming:

A frog leaped swinging its mace in a wild haymaker, and though the water slowed it some, he caught Navatar in the ankle and crumpled the metal. Navatar fell gasping below the water as the frog struck again shattering his arm:

As the water engulfed him, Navatar thought the heard barking, Sha'de laughing, the grinding of machinery and a liquid scream:

Stupid frogs breaking my arm.

At least Sha'De is doing something with his chainaxe, as it was a bugger to produce.

Nice write up, will be interesting to see how many human's turn up to give us their steel offerings.

Navatar passed out and awoke drowning. This happened two or three times, and each time the clan leader heard the sounds of battle receding into the distance. She thought he heard an orc death cry, but it was no one she recognized.

Gathering her willpower Navatar pulled herself out of the pond, despite the pain in her broken limbs. As she walked back into the palisade, she left a scene of pure carnage:

After the battle we reviewed our losses and found that only one orc had died: a spearwoman that came with the spring migrant wave and hadn't the chance to find proper armor before she ran out to meet a squad of frogmen.  Navatar proved her remarkable resilience and toughness when she recovered instantly. I didn't see, perhaps a shaman helped her, certainly no medical history appeared:

Summer:

The fame of our tribe is growing, many orcs came to our home and settled. Our numbers grew until our tribe was more than a hundred strong, and when trading season came, not one but three caravans came to our door. Some of our orc brethren and a human thieves guild were the first to arrive

On their heels came a goblin trader.  As it pulled close to our gate a peculiar thing started to happen. The ground shook a little, faintly at first, but stronger and stronger with each passing moment. I wondered if the racket was coming from the last caravan: maybe the goblins had applied one of their "inventions" to their carts, by say, having the wheels be square and iron instead or round and wooden. The reality was far worse. A divine beast had come drawn by our wealth and power:

It ran for the gate, carelessly knocking aside trees and reached it at the same time as the unfortunate goblins. All but one of their carts escaped the flame, but the last trailing one was instantly consumed by the inferno:

Sending our warriors against this thing seemed like sending them into certain death. I watched it tear several burned horses into bits

and brutally kill one of our dogs, before chasing another into the woods. By the time it turned and ran for the bridge I had a plan.

Some may say the snaga are nothing but goblins wishing they were orcs, scum and weaklings all. Truth is, they have they uses:

  Standing around the well and facing the bridge, they saw the beast as soon as it climbed the entrance ramp, and let loose with a barrage of barbed arrows.

The beast roared as an arrow penetrated its foreleg, and back leg, staggered and gasped blood, as one pierced its chest, and fell still as another struck its forehead.

Our butchers quickly carried away the bounty, and I had its bones carved into blocks and sent into the cove, for the project...

Fall:

Construction on the project was nearing completion. As the workers I strong armed wove the sails, and dismantled the wooden scaffolding, I was troubled by reports of missing herbalists. I had sent all orcs who had no useful skills besides threshing and soap making to gather the herbs in our cavern, but they had not returned.

Those who went to look for them disappeared as well, so did a puppy. Tired of this nonsense I sent the melee squads to  investigate. The trouble quickly became apparent: a whole tribe of degenerate humans had invaded and murdered our brethren. Although they we no match for us, one of the migrant Uruks got a but carried away with battle lust and they killed her for it:

This is a lesson for the young orc: Never start eating your enemy before they drop their weapon!

When the degenerates were on their way to the bone mill, I got the news that an armorer had gone mad.  Fortunately his madness must have been sent by our ancestors, because he crafted a glorious helmet called the Nettles of Soul to match our shield the Rosy Equivalence and the scimitar Polishgorges:

The rest of fall and winter were spent in uneventful building. Things got rather dull, and the only bit of excitement (if you can call it that) happened when the Chaos dwarves, drow and taiga orc caravans fell into a traffic jam they couldn't seem to leave.

When I saw that the chaos dwarves and drow were close to bloodletting, I had the palisade torn down. One section of it still hasn't been rebuilt, but that's someone else's problem.

When Spring rolled around, I was ready to pass power onwards. Me boys didn't have much luck raiding this year: three expeditions returned empty handed (if at all), but we did rob a human village and dwarf hold.

My ship is built, I call her Bloodtide: her floors are ever wet with kobold blood, her sails are crimson with green trimming, her hull is wood, her trimmings are bone and her ram is bloodsteel:

My husband Omega and I settled into the captain's quarters to rule the seas proper.

If any wishes to oppose us let them face the artifact scimitar Navatar tossed aside and I claimed, or Omega's crystal spear. [Vicious thing that: watching him fight is like seeing an adventurer's combat logs: strike to head, pierced brain, strike to head, pierced brain]

Anyways, the fort is in good shape, we definitely need better armor for everyone since with increasing population our military is bigger too, and the new recruits are ill-equipped with armor and excellently equipped with weapons.

I still haven't chosen our guild, but I think the Sea Wolves would be really appropriate given our reliance on raiding and ocean and stuff, but I don't know masterwork well enough to know if the sea wolves suck compared to the other guilds.

Also as I hit spring day 1, we have three massive ambushes in the caverns, so the military needs to deal with that as soon as you upload.

We also have a massive amount of cool orcs for people to claim, including several military monsters with a unique title named "spearorc".

Finally:
I am disappointed. I will be forced to refit it with steeloak logs. I may also build myself a house from them.

I think you should use the steeloak to build an ironclad. The bay has tons of space for it. My ship is meant to be more of a light raiding vessel, more fear than brawn with its bone everything. If you build a steeloak ironclad (bonus points for magma fueled engine (functional or not), this fort will take six levels in badass. We will have a fleet.

Bloodtide is approachable by drawbridge only, though she connects to the land in two places: in the rear to the soil, and via sail to the wall on the shore. Removing both of these connections will likely cause it to completely disintegrate into constituent parts and make me quite irked indeed.

Hmm.  Ronin in general have off-the-charts good recuperation, though Navatar has "slow to heal".

Dreamwalkers have good learn rate for regular medical skills but nothing mystical, they need practice to level them up like anyone else.  Unless you crafted a Regenerating Medicine Dreamcatcher, in which case you would know that you did it :)  And if it works then you'd see it in the combat logs.

Thanks! the helmet actually belonged to Henry the VIII, as I discovered when I googled "horned helmet", and it came up. I thought from the picture it was some weird steampunk cosplay thing. History! I just added a "rat weed" to it.

I noticed the slow to heal too, still think it is really strange. I wondered if there were two Navatars, and one died or something, but it is so unlikely since Navatar is clan chief and militia commander, the chief was getting hurt in the logs and the chief is still alive.

This may be an issue, unless I've completely forgotten something to do with raws in Dwarf Fortress. I'll download and see if it runs okay; the raws are all packed inside those little folders, so this should work...

It's probably backward compatible, I bet you could play the save with v3a (or 2h, for that matter)

I played the save in v3 with no real issues.  Some of the titles of the jobs are a little funny thou... the master potter being described as a master scribe for example.

I would suggest using an older version of Dwarf Therapist thou, as the one bundled with Masterwork v3a is optimized for the new job breakdown.

I did note that Ronin are bloody resistant, as are Uruks. A melee force of Uruks and Ronin clad in plate mail and wielding welded mithril and oriculam weapons are force to be reckoned with. And Omega and his crystal spear is amusing to watch. Has the rest of Omega's squad had their armour upgraded yet?  I used them mostly in a role to protect the shamans, as they typically only had leather armor (except for Omega, named warriors got allocated platemail as it became available.)

Good read Pan, thou for a moment I thought you were going to pay me back for having the kobold Pan lose his foot and drown my namesake :)

I made some armor, but I couldn't figure out what materials we had, and we got a lot of militia additions, so they are definitely low. Their offensive power more than makes up for it, in most cases.
