Yeah, I find skilled Uruks rarely need armour for combat really. The only situation where it's useful is when a lone orc get's surrounded on his own, which is unlikely to happen considering the 'combat doctrine' that is being used here.

Also, does anyone mind if I give a few custom professions to some unnamed orcs when it's my turn? It makes it easier to remember what caste they are and frankly, I hate a couple of caste names. ((I usually rename the artificer caste to be Smithfathers/Smithmothers or Forgemasters. The warrior artificers (who are indispensable when you start using the magma sea for fuel) I call Forgeguard. or sometimes skitarri. cos I can.)) Anyway, I would like to give the Snaga farmers the custom profession of Dirtgrubbers and the weaker Uruks/Ronin/Olog (the ones who start of as 'unquestionably weak' which caps their attributes) as Badbloods (expendable troops, usually give them rusty iron axes and ironbone claws. surprisingly useful as fodder for FBs, titans and other syndrome using nasties.). Let me know if there are any objections.

StLeibowitz, what kind of estimate can you give us on your turn?

Oh, and for most orcs in my experience the metal armours can fuck up their biggest weakness even more; speed. Don't just give everyone steel plate or deep bronze plate 'because you can'. Make sure you have lightly armoured fast response troops (another role the 'Badbloods' are good for, also dwarven legion auxilla kits are good for this as well) as well as the heavy warriors.

Agreed.  Pan I think mentioned Sea Wolves, they might be good in this role too.

You don't have to choose one warrior society.  You can have all of them for different warriors.  Nav is great with both sword and bow, so I suggest dragon society for him.

Adding nicknames is a great idea.  It would give our fort some more character.  I usually give everyone except the peasants a nickname, just to make it easier to tell their roles.

I agree with having primarily lightly-armed troops.  The best defense is a good offense.  When I think of an orc warrior, I don't generally think full-plate armor.  When we start getting warrior society troops, they need to be able to rapidly pelt the enemy with ranged weapons before charging. Once we have veteran orcs with very high armor skill, we can make an elite squad of steel-clad frontline warriors.  It would be nice to get our named orcs to that level so that we don't have to worry about losing them to a lucky rusty iron spear to the head.

Oddly enough, I didn't find the heavy armor slowing down the uruks and ronin due to their prodigious strength.  I think of them as the meat shield holding a defensive line while supported by the lightly armored shamans and snaga archers. But I also like the idea of lightly armored shock troops, as long as they have a big arse shield to keep the arrows at bay while they close.

I like nicknames, makes it easy to figure out who is supposed to be doing things.

Chronicle of Sha'De, dictated to whoever the hell is passing by at the time.

1st Granite 127

Finally that raider bitch is out of the way. I've had enough of these pathetic, whiny, screwups! They dared put a common orc into MY SQUAD? They didn't even have the decency to leave the camp in a good state! We're being invaded from below by the damn trogs and this bitch waltzes on up and just tells me I'm in charge? Fucking cowardly bitch just goes and runs off back to her boat trailing that useless kid behind her. So I do what anyone would do. I send those uppity swordmasters into the deeps along with the spearorcs to deal with the trogs while I take a look around and try to put things in their proper order. First things first; gotta clean up at home before I can deal with the rest. Chucked that elfblooded little bastard out of my squad and recruited new blood! So proud, my own daughter standing beside her father to restore this place to the glory of the Uruk clans!

Okay, the new recruits are getting kitted out now. Amalbagdlatugdur, my own flesh and blood, is joined by Ugburb Burukghagund and Hoashnazg Ughorbigimburz, an Olog. I have the forge (which was a devil to find) making them mithril and welded wolfram weapons.

2nd Granite 127

The prissy swordorcs and overcompensating spearorcs drove off the trogs. Not that big of a deal really. Beginning to set up the lodgings of Reaver squad and our training area, as I've gotten tired of sleeping in the communal barracks.

7th Granite

Who put this elf hut here? Since when do we need their stinking weapons? Bah, this place is corrupted by the outlanders!

Got to work on making this place work. There is nowhere for smiths to put bars of metal. There is no treasury for our coin and plunder. What hell is this? I will not be able to fix all of this, but maybe I can do something.
