Can kobolds grow bloated tubers? I can't in my biome :(

Why you complaining about all of the Niths? That's months worth of meat walking around out there.

The Nith - Kobold battle for caves is a classic one. They are weak enough that you can win, but yeah it's a tricky fight right off the start. Important to make armor and weapons quickly at embark or hope you have enough large pets.

Can anyone set a workflow for the upgraded leathers for kobolds?  My repeating job accidentally upgraded all the leather to tough leather which now can't be split to make suede for buildings nor be used for furniture building. I get an error trying to use the UI and can't use the old scripts that once worked for me in MWDF 2.

Giant Drow Spiders eat Nith for breakfast, literally. And Lunch and dinner. Rip their heads right off.

The leathers are under a blank heading in creatures, near the 'thin' creature for thin sued. Selecting the output manually might help.

Take a look at my screenshot on What's happening on your fort, see how many Niths there were. Niths don't naturally attack nor get attacked by military or animals - they just follow your population around by a safety distance, and that is good, because when they eventually get trampled by a Kobold, a Shalswar or whatever they scratch or rip off his brain in one or two hits. I tried once to chase them with melee bolds. But they just ran out of the map. I guess this happens because I don't wall myself in fast enough. But tell me - what's your strategy on settlement planning? Underground bases like molemen or above ground walled camps with houses and stuff, or maybe both?

Both. First thing is I wall off the cave entrance. Second thing I use the ash I bring to build a clay oven and start gathering that for building walls, using the gathered clay/peat/dirt to build more clay ovens. Then I wall off an area. Only then do I worry about digging down, housing, and all of that. If the Nith are really bad I will gear a hunter to go kill them.
And I think Nith are counted as vermin, and drow spiders eat vermin.

Do you actually have bloated tubers in your world? I don't seem to have them and according to the raws they should be plantable everywhere. I'm buried in sawdust.

Vermin? Niths are actually vermin hunters. I remember having Bloated Tubers in some worlds, maybe you should try to generate new ones.
Also, why can Kobolds butcher sapients?
Also, why Kobolds have a malus as carpenters?

I assume because they are carnivorous and don't eat plants, their morals have no issues with eating sapients. Gameplay and lore wise it seems fine for me.

My current camp, I didn't have a river/brook but I dug a moat to connect enough murky pools in a rectangle for my camp to fit. Went up faster than building walls or digging into the ground. Rain quickly filled it back up to 6-7 depth.

I turned on aquifers and that's been great for a water supply. Thought I'd share for those used to having it off. Having caves allows for an easy way through it.

Thanks for the blank creature on the leather workflow. Will try later this evening.

Vanilla Kobolds ethics are agains butchering sapients. Meph must've modded them to be fine with it. It's satisfying to butcher a nymph, a leprechaun, a centaur or whatever, but I rather attain to realism.

Can I use that line as a signature? It makes me chuckle.

Anyway, I think it adds to the tribal feel of kobolds and the fact they need a renewable bone and tallow source since much of the industry is based on it - which invaders provide.

Invaders always used to be a renewable source of their metals, "goblinite". The best types of leather armors give an iron-grade protection, so once invaders come you could just drop the leather armor industry (except maybe for the wairpaintable central armorpiece) and start a metal industry out of the rusty iron goblins bring - IF you manage to kill them in first place, however. Elves will also bring you mithril bars at an affordable price, so you can even just go for mithril gear. Bones aren't that vital either, you can make furniture out of it, but you could just make it out of clay or wood without bloodshed. I'm talking about the mod's balance, not roleplaying here.

One nooby question: This is the first time I ever played KC, and my Kobolds came of 6-7-8 years old, does that means that they die earlier of old age?

My second turn's unnoficial goal was to turn everyone into vampires, and it backfired so bad, I ended up making the fort a more efficient, safer and friendlier place.
Apparently they evolved a taste for everything I love and care about

Not sure what that is supposed to say.

Kobold lifespan is 15-25 years.
