Should Scaleplate/Chitinplate/Shellplate reduced to "Scale/Chitin/Shell", and "Rigid X-plate" to "X-plate". It would shorten names a lot.

My question implied the question: Do you want me to make one, or do you want to make it? (because since your updates my knowledge about the internal workings of the GUI are lacking. I plan to remedy that, but so much to do, so little time.)

I'm not sure how important this is, but if bonestacks are now stacks of 2, is it possible to do the same with plants so as to avoid using too many plants for things like drinks and medicines?  I'm not sure if that's what the end goal was, but I believe a stack would be used and irregardless of the quantity in the stack, only 1 set of product was produced.

On the subject of the poll. I would rather see the number of leather variants reduced than the names shortened. I dislike having X number of different leather cloak types.

No, its way different. Plants dont have body plans that could be altered.

DwarvesatWork: They are all different values and different sources. There are not many different leathers left in the mod.

There have been no changes to the leather names in a long time. Its... suede, leather, tough/studded leather, scaleplate, chitinplate and shellplate. (and rigid version, the upgrade) Thats because they have different attributes.

I just learned about the woodcrafters shop (mirrors the stonecrafters shop), and I can make similar items... I was thinking a wood crutch should be there as well...  ALTHOUGH, the apothecary can make 5 (or is it splints?)... so prolly not really that necessary.

2 little things:

a) it has been discussed before, but will there be a bone unification? Because right now there are 2 gazillion different kinds of bones or so... (depending what they were from)
And for some odd reason the game also decides, that a warlock bone table and a warlock bone table MAY be the same itemcategory during building placement... but not necessarily so....  so when i build whatever bone furniture my selection looks like:
5 warlock bone table
2 gnoll bone table
1 warlock bone table
3 orc bone table
3 gnoll bone table
etc...
Would be rather cool, if it would be just one thing, or at least only 3 different kinds... (one for each original creature)
b)
is it possible to reduce the amount of meat from enemy corpses?
My fortress is at 150 dwarves and I'm drowning in meat. There are 2 butchershops with decent butchers working all day all night, hardly able to keep up with the amount of corpses (well... actually my corpse stockpile is also steadily growing...) because there are so many dead enemies. Actually in the whole game I have never actively done anything to generate food. (except hunting down less then a dozen animals that were scaring my workers during the first year) And still... There is just waaaaaay too much food^^
Or alternatively increase the amount of food consumed by dwarves.

I cant increase the amount that dwarves eat.

I can maybe change the food amount, but its pretty difficult.

Standardizing bones is possible (at least I hope so). It should be.

My fortress is at 150 dwarves and I'm drowning in meat.

Trading it away is all I’ve ever found.  More like giving it away; smashing/dumping food just seems so wrong.  After a year of practice, cooks are skilled enough to make pots of 10K roasts and when legendary, 25 – 35K each.  In any biome, those can be used to trade for crates of gold bars, made into coins, and then the Embassy can be used to call dwarven caravans repeatedly.  Between that and Teduk’s, a fortress can rather quickly have way more than enough of exotic anythings.  Meph will likely find a way to nerf this fairly soon.   :)

I couldn't find the official GUI discussion thread.  As the mod gets more popular we seem to be getting flooded with people having issues changing settings after world generation and then asking why something hasn't worked.  I would suggest color coding the boxes surrounding each group of options.  Then at the top of each page a simple key.  Something along the lines of boxes with red outlines cannot be changed after world generation, while boxes with green outlines can be changed after world generation.

I'm sure many people will still miss it.  But there seems to be a lot more confusion lately regarding these settings than I saw before.  On the other hand it could just be a massive influx of people to the mod.  Which would also be wonderful.

The current version has over 11000 individual downloads, not counting the alpha/beta/gold SWP releases, so yeah, its a lot. But the manual already says: You need to gen a world to change settings, which the exception of the init changes. (which still require a newstart).

But maybe a GUI thread should be done. I might do one when I do the next release in a few days.

yeah we probably should, i'm starting to miss bug reports because they're reported in different threads that i may not read, and people are unaware of the issue tracker and that some of the bugs they're reporting have already been addressed.
