Poll

Should Scaleplate/Chitinplate/Shellplate reduced to "Scale/Chitin/Shell", and "Rigid X-plate" to "X-plate". It would shorten names a lot.

Yes. Text gets cut off too often.
No. I dont care/like the names as they are.
Dont you have anything better to do then making such tiny adjustements?

The thing about the ammo loading process is relatively modern, more so than guns themselves of course. Extracting the pure stuff in cosmetics seems to only have been invented in the 1880s thanks to centrifuges  :-\, my bad. The rust/water proofing is old as the iron age itself though, but in the form of storing weapons in wool (not much to go on).

But after looking it up properly, I found something FAR more interesting from UC Davis:

Wool + sand producing gold seems a little OP, but there you have it. Out of all the races, it seems like a tech well suited to humans - promoting their merchant/pirate behaviour and quirky technological habits.

Edit: jimboo posted like a second before and I can't be arsed modifying post.

Wool + sand producing gold seems a little OP, but there you have it.

With wool as a catalyst, expend 10 sand to produce 1 "gold dust" that can be melted to produce 1/10 of a gold bar?  That might be going too far in the opposite direction, actually.  But intuitively, that process would be rather labor-intensive, and labor-intensiveness can make up for cheap resources.

Some feedback.

Crates of clothing, while nice, seem to be pretty inefficient for what the do. If you order them from every caravan around I was suprised to learn that they only hold one set of clothing. Considering crates are meant to give a sizeable boost, I think this should be upped to 5 at the very least.

Cave wheat bread is too expensive. Seriously, 120 for one piece? If used in a prepared food stack, it skyrockets the value.

How viable would be to add another nobles that could also deal with guild representatives? I love the spawn caravan reaction at the embassy, but the big caveat is that it spawns every single diplomant as well. Either please remove them from the tradefair and make a separate reaction for every diplomat (summon a trade council meeting) or add new bottom nobles resposible for meeting them. One ambush can kill several diplomants  hwne they just aimlessly wait for their turn at the edge of the map.

Fungiwood bark is too good. Seriously, if you get down to the 1st cavern, you can never plant anything. Sure it takes a while to process, but produces insane amonts of plants. I think you said something about adding another tree to cav1, so maybe this will be enough.

I dont know if its just that or its a side effect, but I think warlocks should loose their fire inducing capabilities. Bushfires aside, they just roast themselves or deconstruct your structures by accident.

EDIT: one thing i forgot to mention, you really should add orichalcum chance to the blast furnace. I assume its an oversight.

I know that some people will say: "Oh noes, now I need birds (feather => quill) and lifestock (horn/hoof => glue) for my library, that makes it too hard..." so I added a few more options. Bloated tubers can be pressed in the screwpress, they give bloated tuber glue. Spore trees, which grow in the first cavern, can be used in the timberyard to make glue from spore tree resign. All allies will also trade three new crates: Crate of feathers, which unpacks to 10 feathers, crate of library supplies, which unpacks into papyrus, paper, vellum, 3 quills, 3 ink-pots and 3 pots of glue. The unpacking requires 3 empty pots for the ink. And a crate of books, which spawn a random selection of 5-10 books, and maybe 1-2 masterpiece books. :)

I'd like to chime in here.
As a self-declared lazy player, I use libraries sparingly - except for doctor and weaponsmith/armorsmith skills, there really isn't anything I'd want to level that way. With guilds, they level fairly quick anyway.

My point is, the library system is already fairly complex, as far as DF goes anyway. Adding more steps to it, while simultaneously allowing players to purchase everything needed from the caravans, basically removes any incentive I might've had to make everything myself. By the time I'd decide to use libraries, I'll likely have enough purchasing power to buy everything anyway.

I can't speak for everyone, obviously, but that's my concern and perhaps some people will share it.
The other changes look pretty great, though, if I may say so :)

2x Clay boulder --> Brick Oven (8 blocks/bricks) --> Crucible (1 slade boulder) --> Mason (4 slade blocks) --> Stonecutter (1 slade bed of superior quality worth 2000 buckeroos). [3 blocks left to do it again]

Of course, it weighs 6000 dwarfograms, but ship it, set it, and forget it.

I wonder what would happen if I gave some slade to the jeweler and had him cut and then decorate the bed. hmmmm....

So I should reduce the value of slade? ^^ Thats what you are saying? :P

About the library: It was more complex before, and I made it easier... removing the essays, both for reading and as reagent for the books. And I think everyone has enough hoof/horn for the glue... feathers for the quills are of course more difficult, but even hunting would be enough to statisfy the demand. Or trading. Point is: I dont want a small hole-in-the-wall 1-year fortress to have a big library system, it just feels wrong. And its realistic, although it could be argued that dwarves could invent a printing-press. Maybe I could do that... a metal-based, high-tech alternative to writing books with quills, that can make batches of books. So people start with a slow library using quills to write a few books, but once you have a nice metal industry and possibly some mechanisms/precision tools, you can make a printing plate. It would be a tool that is preserved in the reagent and people only need ink/paper. So the printing plate would be an eternal quill, and could make batches of... 3(?) books in one reaction.

Well, of course that would make the library system even bigger, but I personally like the idea. I often build large libraries in my fortress, mostly for ornamental purposes, because big castles always have a library in my mind. ^^

Bread price and clothing sets can be better balancing, no problem. Orichalcum for blast furnace as well... I am surprised that its not in there, because I did add a chance for iridium... I clearly remember this, but maybe it got lost over the versions.

Lanolin/Wool: I'll have a look into it, but it's probably low on the todo list. Atm my line of thought is that I'll test what I have, update the manuals and then do a release... the last one was a month ago already. time flies. ^^

I would say make two new boulder types that are required for the volcanic forging but only available from the Crucible.  Then you can set their value to 3 (cheap stone).  Trachyte and Latite are two volcanic related rocks that Toady skipped.

So no more artificial slade, and changing the reagents for volcanic... that could work. Although I'd rather use something already there, then invent something new, just to use it in one reaction.

From the Wikipedia entry on Volcanic Rock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volcanic_rock) everything else is pretty common and already in vanilla and possibly MW.  I didn't cross check all of the stone that you removed, but I think you included Basalt and Gabbro. The others are all in vanilla and I don't know what reintroducing them to world gen would result in.

Think of them as ink and quills.  Two items to create and are key to getting some much better items.

But volcanic metal shouldnt be so limited in amount. It should just be another refining step of steel and mithril. Currently you need iron, coke and flux for pigiron, then steel. Then you can take either rare raw mithril for mithril, or take 1 steel + 3 silver = 2 mithril bars. So steel+silver is the next upgrade. Then titan+mithril is welded mithril, the next upgrade, very light.

Or you take steel, mithril, obsidian and slade for the next upgrade, heavy. Volcanic.

Iron => Steel => Mithril => Welded Mithril
Iron => Steel + Mithril => Volcanic

The obsidian and slade is only to slow down production a bit, but both are unlimited. Obsidian from magma+water, and slade from hell or compressing stone into slade. Of course I can change it a bit, but I dont want to make volcanic very rare.

Here some ideas for future buildings. I only did the building files... any feedback on them? Good ideas, bad ideas?
