Should Scaleplate/Chitinplate/Shellplate reduced to "Scale/Chitin/Shell", and "Rigid X-plate" to "X-plate". It would shorten names a lot.

Yeah, I thought the same, but I tried to keep them 3x3. I can easily make them 5x3 and give them a better design, but they are super-basic workshops and I dont want them to take up much space.
I'd prefer them being 5 x 3

When it's about above ground settlements, you might even wish they were 1X1 to fit into average-sized buildings. :P

Thatcher, Ammo caster and Megabeast Kennels look great!

I also support the idea that Stonecutter, Gemcutter and Bonecutter could use more ordered design. When I make a stockpile near them, all objects seem to merge into one strange picture.

As for Wineyard, I suggest changing it to a smaller size. I made a small image of 7x5 workshop from yours, though I'm sure there should be even a better solution and 7x5 is not standard AFAIR.


I also play on a netbook and try not to dig too unnecessarily large spaces. Placing big workshops like Fishing pond or Guildhall always causes much inconvenience for me.

Suggestion: since orc and goblin caravans are available, why not kobold caravans? With some luck you'll end up buying back some of the stuff they stole from you. Also the [UTTERANCES] tag will have the most interesting effect on traders' dialogue.

The different sizes make workshops more easy to differentiate.  This is doubly true since size differentiation tends to occur within buildings relating to the same industry.

Ok, the *cutters will be changed. either a clearer 3x3, or similar items on 5x3.

Apani: Before I get murdered in my sleep by kobolds:

The 11x11 buildings like colosseum, guildhall and all that are so big because people usually only ever build one of them. the fishpond is so large because it should slow down construction. if you want 10 fishfarms you will have to do a lot of digging.

Silentdeth: Then suggest better ones. Its difficult to allow 4 entries but keep a specific style to the workshop. I would have to use 5x5, because of the 4 exits, which would bring the size up even more.

Quarterblue: I tested on kobolds, but they dont work. Its like the map at embark, they dont show a kobold civ, because its skulking. I cant force their traders to come, otherwise I would have added it.

FengYun: The wineyard I dont even know if I will add... it was just an idea. Its the same size as the old timberyard and should be a rare building... but as a netboook user I know what you mean.

Well, you can by using stockpile feeding. But I was building a dyer the first time in ages in my test fort, and was like: "wtf, it has only two reactions? I can do that better". And then read up on batik and leather dyes and all that. ^^

Two comments:
First, I love the odd sizes, and the big ones. Adds a much more diverse look to the fort, and prevents a 3X3 from claiming it houses an entire sawmill.

Second, could wineyard be changed to vineyard? or at least a word different enough from vineyard that it doesn't always look like a typo?

oh, sorry, it was suppossed to be winery. not a mispelling of vineyard ^^

gamerlord: but the size of them is on purpose. they are unique in usage/features and get a unique size that sets them apart from the rest of the buildings.
