Things that go boom: this is the only mini-mod that I use with MW.  There’s no need for Thermite since that enterprising soul already posted on Bay12 how to mine through slade.  But your mod already has all the ingredients for Torpex.  Easy, and a bigger boom.   :)

Torpex? Aluminium Powder, Check. TnT, Check, at least in my raws. RDX/Cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine, ehm... not quite. I think something that was developed 1930-1950 is a bit too high-tech for DF.

I dont even know about TnT, its also quite new, 1863. Dynamite, 1867. All three of them Made in Germany. :D Maybe I do those, maybe not.

Now, blackpowder, 9th century, thats more DF-style.

And yet you’re considering anthracene dyes?   :)  In any case, you’re the one that introduced dynamite.  I’m not complaining but, that’s some fairly serious chemistry with fuming nitric acid.  You still have the “don’t PM me” SIG so my “someday to Meph” WORD file on possible dwarven chemistry is now several pages long.  But if one already has dynamite, then Torpex is easy and 40% bigger bang.  Imo, the dwarves should stick to medieval chemistry, nothing organic that is synthetic (plant dyes are EZ, laboratory dyes certainly are not).  Napalm is just soap + fuel but like Thermite, I can’t see the need for a fire that can’t be extinguished. 

And now from your edit: cinnabar makes for easy mercury but then what are you going to do with it?  Mad dwarves with hats?  Next you'll have the glassworks blowing retorts and distillation columns.

I definetily will make prussian blue, even if its a rather recent invention, because its needed for blueprints. I already make blueprints, while being oblivious to how they are made. Now I know, and prussian blue is definetily going in.

And apparently, according to wikipedia, it looks like germans made 75% of all the discoveries, all the time. The read on Albertus Magnus was quite good, didnt even knew he lived in my hometown. And yes, send me your science post, I'm having oddly enough a lot of fun, because this is all new to me. Brain = Sponge.

Whaaa? Do dwarfs even have the tech to do that without killing themselves? And mercury bullets, Why? Do you mean mercury fulminate? I think that's a bit beyond dwarven tech level.

No, mercury filled bullets. Like in the "The Day of the Jackal". I know they are not real, but a common urban myth. Just use quicksilver as a name instead of mercury and make it damage werebeasts, tada, done. :)

Can you modifiy how demonic fortresses do spawn in the underground? You might add medium or low sized buildings hiding all kind of horros and mysterious rewards for your curious/unlucky miners.

No. You can't modify anything about terrain or any sites of any kind in any way. If you're talking about buildings that aren't workshops or furnaces, those can't be modded. Anything that involves constructions are unmoddable.

Silentdeth: The manager lists all permitted reactions? Wow, never noticed that... I usually toggle the buildings when people use the buttons in the UI, but I guess I should expand it to the reactions then as well.

Materials are also listed in the alt+a menu. For instance there are 4 of "steel", 3 of "slade", ect. If that could be cleaned up it would help when using that menu.

Looking it up, the alt-a menu is DFHack's gui/workshop-job, which I've never used...

It's also interesting to see the number of discoveries and technologies we use today that are almost directly linked to WWII in one way or another.

EDIT: Just realized I really could have used those mirrors in my current fort. As it is "Mirrorcity"

I think I'll change my research system a bit. Blueprints and Research Discoveries are needed for specific buildings/tech. Researching works like this: You start researching a topic, cheaply. you have 80% chance to succeed, 20% to fail. After 5 times success, you have made a new research discovery. Now you can build a new building. Even failed results can be double-checked and might yield a surprise result.

A bit of math:
Each research (from 1-4) has a 80% chance for inconclusive results. And a 40% for a discovery. That means 2,5 times on average for one discovery. That means ~2,4 inconclusive results per discovery, which is enough for an almost 100% chance of a new discovery by sifting though them. 40x1%x2,4=96%. That makes 2 discoveries on average, from 2,5 tries, with a total of 15 reactions to be run, and 15 materials used, most of which are automatic.

This can be adjusted for each topic, depending on difficulty. The example shows the 5 laboratories, with 5 reactions each and a 40% successrate. The Alarm Siren, a simple machine, could use 3 reactions, with 64% successrate. Or 2, with 80%. The Artificers Chamber, which builds artificial/clockwork pets, could get 6 reactions (32.77%), 7 (26.21%) or even 8 reactions (20.97%).

Its a neat grading. 1:1, 4:5, 2:3, 1:2, 2:5, 1:3, 1:4, 1:5 chances. For those who care. ^^
