Should Scaleplate/Chitinplate/Shellplate reduced to "Scale/Chitin/Shell", and "Rigid X-plate" to "X-plate". It would shorten names a lot.

Yes. Text gets cut off too often.
No. I dont care/like the names as they are.
Dont you have anything better to do then making such tiny adjustements?

Could you make one of the tiles of magma crucible, magma blast furnace and other magma buildings impassable?

Usually I dig out a channel above magma and put the impassable tile (dark green cross) on it, so the monsters from magma could not come. But magma crucible does not have any.

Note that Masterwork Mod makes it very easy to transport magma to a safer location (just pack it into waterskins and unload it in a liquid spawner elsewhere), so there's no need to put your furnaces over unsafe magma at all.

Your suggestion's still good, I'm just noting that there's a simple workaround.

Brilliand, I asked in the Gameplay questions thread how to use the liquid spawner, but nobody explained it to me. Every time I use the liquid spawner, magma spreads out and there is only 1/7 everywhere, which evaporates quite fast. This can be useful for traps on building destoryers, however I have no idea how to transport magma, if it is level 1 only. Could you please teach me how to use the liquid spawner correctly?

@FengYun: if I remember well, a liquid source will spawn magma/water on the directly adjacent tiles, so max 9 tiles, but only if it has any valid tiles next to it, empty space does not count. So if you build it on top of a support it will only spawn on the 1 available tile, fall down on the ground and spread. However: If you put the source in a 3x3 pit and collapse the floor on top it should work. (in theory, never tested, take this advice with a grain of salt.)

If you deconstruct a liquid spawner (including via cave-in) that contains magma, it will generate 7/7 magma on its own tile and on up to 5 of the adjacent tiles (only tiles with floors and no walls are eligible [not sure about stairs/fortifications], tiles that already contain magma might be chosen).  The simplest way to take advantage of this is probably to build a wall around a single liquid spawner, then drop a constructed floor on it from above; this will give you a single tile of magma that you can then build a furnace over.  Just make sure there's a solid wall below the liquid spawner to stop the cave-in - I wound up dropping magma into my manager's office the first time I tried this.

I suggest generating only single-cell magma pools to reduce flow calculations.  Having water or magma continually moving around is bad for FPS.

Thank you very much, Brilliand. I'm testing it now.

I suggest adding 'Build magma-safe anvil' command to Stonecutter. There are options to build magma-safe door, floodgate, block, hatch, whatsoever, but there is no option for a magma-safe anvil. Since anvils are made from blocks in this building, it could make sense adding this.

Another thing I would like to see, is description of stones in the game. Currently, when pressing 'k', then 'Enter' and 'v' on a stone, it says 'This is dolomite' or 'This is diorite'. Even though all the information can be found in the wiki, it would be nice, if the tip mention magma-safety and color in this description in the game.

EDIT: And maybe put magma-safe option into one menu branch, like 'rock' in Craftdwarf's workshop.

Hello, thanks for a truly EPIC mod, and to all authors of the various mods used. I have two observations that I thought I'd bring to your attention:
1 - I always imagine a bard playing a banjo instead of a flute
2 - The name psychiatrist feels slight immersion-breaking (maybe its just me) and I feel the name magistrate rings a better bell in my opinion

Again thanks for the great mod and your consideration! :)

a magistrate typically acts as a judge or some other member of local government, depending on the cultural reference.  But I do agree that psychiatrist is not quite right.

Since the psychiatrist position, in game, is one who tries to keep things on an even keel, I'd think Bartender would be more fitting to our little alcohol dependent cretins.

A bartender is hardly a noble. ;)

Why not psychiatrist? Therapist could be used as well... isnt there any good political title from labor unions? "He felt good for yelling at someone in charge lately"...

FengYun: You dont need the liquid spawner, you can build tracks and use a magmatanker, it fits a lot more liquids and makes moving magma a lot easier. I know that the liquid spawner is horribly convoluted (build, spawn magma, deconstruct safely from a distance), a dfhack solution would be better. Maybe simulating a pump, with free water/magma, that would be nice.

The open tile for magma workshops is by design. Magma creatures should be able to attack you ;) But you can make channels and floodgates to stop them.

I'm curious, what wrong with the tanning reactions, and how did you fix them?  I'm guessing it was something alot more elegant than my bandaid extra reactions.

EDIT2: And I am amazed at how much you've done, even while doing some major traveling.

Tanning fix: I gave cragtooth boars, leatherwing bats and drakes the reaction class SHEARED and wrote this reaction:

Code: [Select]
[REACTION:TAN_A_HIDE_SHEARED]
[NAME:tan any sheared hide]
[BUILDING:TANNER:CUSTOM_T]
  [REAGENT:A:1:NONE:NONE:NONE:NONE][REACTION_CLASS:SKIN][UNROTTEN][REACTION_CLASS:SHEARED]
[HAS_MATERIAL_REACTION_PRODUCT:TAN_MAT][DOES_NOT_DETERMINE_PRODUCT_AMOUNT]
[PRODUCT:100:1:SKIN_TANNED:NONE:GET_MATERIAL_FROM_REAGENT:A:TAN_MAT]
   [PRODUCT:15:1:BOULDER:NONE:INORGANIC:STENCH][PRODUCT_DIMENSION:150]
[SKILL:LEATHERWORK]
[AUTOMATIC]

PS: The last three days I spend on a big pelni ferry in indonesia... between borneo and sulawesi. Believe me, having a notebook and a kindle and a chessboard is amazing for such trips. Makassar to Kupang will probably be another 1-3 days. Transport is so slow here... I saw a bus from Ranepao to Poso (I hope the names are correct)... its about 200km in a straight line, but it takes 14h to get there. Thats 45mins in a german ICE train. ^^

So yeah, Sulawesi atm. :)

A 'Lights up/Lights down' reaction to Candelabra and Brazier could be added and they would change their sprite from red to yellow and backwards.

Since you mentioned them being in charge, how about calling them "foreman". Opens up possibility of having multiple foremen in charge of their respective work crews or just leave it at the one dwarf.

Foreman would make sense. :) I will make a note about it.

FengYun: Once build, the color of a candelabra can not be changed. If they were creatures, yes, by using caste-transformations. But not buildings.

Some mistypes in item_weapon.txt and item_weapon_human_tech.txt:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

All these happen multiple times.

You can download the txt files corrected by me here:

EDIT: If we discuss what to change psychiatrist to, how about him being called 'convive'? It means a close friend with whom one enjoys spending time drinking alcohol. :D

Other shots at Psychiatrist.
  • Union Rep
  • Head of DR (Dwarven Resources)
I would think a foreman would be the source of your problems and someone you complain about, not to.
