So I just gave it a whirl and the first thing that got me was the unit count in the save folder which numbered over 1k. It seems like every creature and his dog on the entire planet update every time you take a step. Checking out the slayrace menu there were only 6 FBs and a couple of garbage entities... nothing that could rock the fps that much.

I can only offer help in that I made a mod for people with FPS issues. Accelerated DF, but that cant be retro-actively fitted onto an existing fort.

The biggest issues for FPS is pathfinding, flows and temperature.

Unfortunately this is for adventure mode and pathfinding, flows and temperature are not the issue here. I wish it were that easy.

I think it counts dead units in the units count, because my units page was pretty full of goblins that died in sieges, their mounts, dwarves from the last fort, yak men who wandered into my weapon traps...

You know, the usual bodycount for a long-standing fort.
