The crashing issues have been addressed on the very recent patch, 1.02. Here's a direct link to it. I also heard some people with low FPS can run the game more smoothly now, but try not to get your hopes up.

On a side note, Hisoutensoku is nowhere near dead, a lot of people are still playing it in the chat. And some of you might know that we actually came across another Steam group centered on the fighters. They're going to be hosting a newbie-friendly (lots of newer players will be in this) tournament on June 29th, 6:30pm EDT. If you're interested, just come to the chat (our Bay12 one) and ask Yaffy Fan about it. He's usually there.

For anyone who, like me, had a hell of a time getting Hopeless Masquerade to run in a playable state on their dinosaur of a computer, here's a tip:
    In the Config menu, set the fifth option from the top to the second or third settings from the left and the next option down to the second setting from the left ('1/2'). The former will replace the gorgeous 3-D animated backdrops with slightly-less-gorgeous prerendered 2-D images, saving a lot of processor power; the latter will reduce how often the game tries to redraw the screen.
    Certain attacks, such as Miko's sparkly-circle thingie, will still cause lag, but overall I haven't been having any further problems on my rig after fiddling with the settings like such.

I'm loving the crap of this game so far. Playable Koishi is awesome.

Also, Byakuren's chest = wat. I do not need tits in my Touhou. That's what Google's for  -_-;

How can you deny those Mountains of Faith???
Yeah, I brought up Byakuren's Unnecessarily Fantastic Objects in chat not too long ago.

Still a Soku player here. Having no IN characters kinda makes me sad. HM's theme is supposedly about religious stoof so a lot of my favorite characters won't be in it it seems.

@Blaze:

+1 for making me giggle. "Unnecessarily Fantastic Objects" will now be added to my personal lexicon.

I was sort of disappointed by HM's roster, too -- only 10 characters, a good half of which I didn't care much for -- but the mechanics are pretty brilliant (the audience-appeal thingy does an excellent job of discouraging turtling, I think) and I'm already starting to warm up to the characters I initially didn't care about. Cue horde of angry fighting-game vets informing me that I'm a moron and Soku's mechanics are far superior.

Think I'm gonna bide my time before attempting netplay, though (like anyone cares, heh); I have a long history of being awful at fighting games and even worse at losing gracefully.

Soku tournament coming up in about a month! Get in here and practice if you so desire. It's for newer folk so don't worry about being outclassed. In either case it will be a learning experience.

I'd totally be on the chat doing exactly that right now, except that I apparently have to buy a game off of Steam to be able to do so unless I'm misunderstanding something terribly? -_-;  Bit of a bummer.

If y'all will let me be a selfish brat for a moment, would TinyChat be an option for real-time communication in case the two or three Bay 12 members who don't use Steam want to be a part of this?

I did, and it lets me see who's online, but trying to send a message or join a chatroom brings up a pop-up informing me that I need to have games in my (newly-registered) account for certain features to become available. Fair enough, but a bit annoying at the moment.

(If there's anything else anyone would like to say on the subject, it'd probably be best to just PM me it instead of junking up the thread with dozens of boring tech-support posts :) )

Somebody buy this man a 50 cent game so he can join the party!

I'm only joking a little. I'd send you something myself but I'm not home and won't be for a while.

The Humble Bundle should cover any and all "Need a game on Steam" problems. Unless you don't have a credit card/paypal/etc.

... wait a second! Maybe there IS a use to all these Dota 2 passes I have! PM your info when possible, good sir.

I've been trying to hook him up with a spare code but honestly the DOTA2 pass seems like it would be simpler and faster. :P

Loaded up HM, started a game as Koishi against Byakuren, figured that the controls would be similar to SWR. Was proven wrong immediately, when all I was able to do was wave my arms about like a lunatic and periodically shoot out an attack of some sort. Despite basically randomly mashing the keys I used in SWR, I somehow managed to win easily.

The person supporting regenerating health, when asked why you can see when shot in the eye justified it as 'you put on an eyepatch'. When asked what happens when you are then shot in the other eye, he said that you put an eyepatch on that eye. When asked how you'd be able to see, he said that your first eye would have healed by then.

Koishi does what she wants when she wants to, you only advise her on what to do.

All of Koishi's moves except for her light attacks (melee and projectile) have a delay until they are used. Using a heavy melee, heavy projectile, or special attack makes a corresponding icon next to her spirit gauge light up (red for melee, blue for ranged, green for special). The icon will blink for a couple seconds; once it stops blinking, it will trigger after certain things happen:
  • Heavy Melee Attacks trigger once the opponent comes within range (below you and a bit in front for her down attack, directly above you for her up attack, etc.). It's a bit situational, honestly, but can take the opponent by surprise due to its ability to trigger even when Koishi normally can't do such an attack (like when dashing).
  • Heavy Projectile Attacks trigger when the opponent is at a certain angle from Koishi, depending on the direction inputted -- neutral, forward, or backward trigger when the opponent is level with Koishi, up and down trigger when the opponent is higher or lower than her (respectively). It directly targets the opponent's position, bypassing bullets and physical distance, and can trigger at any time so long as Koishi isn't already attacking, so it's great as a trap.
  • Special Attacks vary depending on the attack. The grab attack triggers upon Koishi successfully landing an attack on the opponent. The corkscrew attack triggers when the opponent comes into range. The vine and rose-scattering attacks trigger after a certain time. The circle thingy and rotating laser activate when the opponent touches the glowing line.
Koishi strikes me as being excellent for mind games, because the opponent can't see exactly which moves have been set to trigger -- only whether it was melee, ranged, or special. Also, the fact that her moves can trigger at any time as long as she isn't already attacking allows you to set up bizarre combos that can catch the opponent off guard.
    Of course, since she's vulnerable when she's attacking (particularly in the case of her heavy projectiles), being too predictable with her can allow the opponent to use her ability against her by deliberately triggering an attack and quickly dashing forward while she's vulnerable.

(Totally talking out my ass here, mind; I have no experience with human opponents)

E: Well, it took a helpful donation of a crummy FPS from Seriyu and hours and hours of hand-holding by Claxus et al in order to get my ports forwarded, but I managed to get on and play some Soku with others. Had a blast, thank you all, etc..
