Nintendo DS games with cooperative MP gameplay?
« on: April 27, 2013, 07:11:23 pm »

My littlesister always begs me to play games with her, we tried Mario Kart and New Super Mario Bros.
She really dosent like competition.

Are there any games, preferably harvest moon style games that have cooperative local multiplayer?

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time and Ring of Fates both were designed around cooperative play even to the point that the single player parts feel like multiplayer without another player. They're great action RPG games that are easy to pick up.

I can't think of any Harvest Moon style ones.

There's the lego series. You can also take a look here: http://www.co-optimus.com/system/7/nintendo-ds.html

I think Animal Crossing Wild World has some co-op elements but I'm not sure.

But honestly there aren't that many actual co-op games on the DS. Most of them involve something competitive. The 3ds has Monster Hunter and Animal Crossing. The next Rune Factory also has co-op dungeoneering.

If you both have 3DS I would say Monster Hunter for the 3DS, but if you just have a normal NDS. A good choice would prob be that Zelda game, 4 Swords. Working together to solve problems would be a good game for the two of ya...

I think the upcoming Animal Crossing on 3DS has such an option...

Hmm.

Phantasy Star Zero has vaguely monster-huntery co-op. It's basically PSO for handheld. You can run through the levels together with up to four people, I think. It's an action game with RPG elements, so you'd have to judge whether it's too difficult or not.

My other favourite co-op game on DS is Daigasso! Band Brothers and the sequel, which is a co-operative music game (each player plays a different instrument on a midi track using button presses, basically). Of course, it's Japanese and you'd have to import it, but you can do co-op off a single cartridge via download play.
I guess the sequel has a European release too (Jam with the Band) but I really don't have any experience with that one.
