Boat murdered audio book anyone?
« on: April 27, 2013, 12:30:19 pm »

I was thinking it might be fun to try and get some high caliber actors to read Boat Murdered... One actor per a player.  Maybe set it up so donations go to charity.
Booking would be tricky... but celebrities love charity, and if there's enough support we could get a kickstarter going to cover recording costs etc...

Any thoughts?

You would have to get the rights to use Boatmurdered first. You would have to contact each individual who participated in Boatmurdered to get them to sign off on it. Then you could go ahead with this.

Let's picture the conversation this way:

<Porpoisepower> I was thinking it might be fun to be able to go faster than light!
<Willfor> Well, first you're going to have to figure out how to break or bend some physical laws.
<Porpoisepower> But just think about how awesome it would be to go faster than light!

I'm not disagreeing with your fundamental concept that it would be something positive, I am saying that getting even the first step done -- getting the rights -- is going to be more challenging than simply saying it would be great. As far as I know, no one has been able to get all of them to officially sign off on anything of this nature, and there have been several people who have tried. A few of the creators are opposed to changing it into any other format. Anything of this nature is going to have to be above board if you want celebrities to sign off on doing it. And if you're accepting money to try to make this work, it involves complex licensing that no one is going to sign off on when step 1 -- the rights issue -- cannot ever be resolved.

I think getting them to do it would also be pretty damned hard.
I dunno, Samuel L. Jackson did Go the Fuck to Sleep.

Probably never gonna happen. I suppose some of us could do it though.

Getting the rights to Boatmurdered has been attempted multiple times, and every one has failed.

I also don't know of any celebrity who gives a single shit about DF.

Fair enough... this was just a feeler to see if there was interest in hearing Patrick Stewart say:Damn thing is missing half his chest. It makes it pretty damn desturbing when he humps your leg.

If you're just basically doing a "dramatic reading" of it and posting it somewhere rather than trying to monetize it that probably wouldn't be a problem.

I think you should just get people from the community to do this for fun.
