Linux equivalent to Adobe Premiere?
« on: April 24, 2013, 06:37:03 pm »

(My google-fu is weak, I apologize)

Several computers in my school's video production room are well on their way to kicking the bucket. It can take an entire class period (almost an hour) for one to load up and be "usable", and then there's no guarantee that Adobe Premiere will load. I suggested to my video teacher that we switch to Ubuntu 12.04 instead of just buying brand-new computers. The one hitch, however, is that I have no idea what kind of video editing software is available for Ubuntu. We need something that provides an equivalent feature set to Adobe Premiere and Encore, such as multiple layers, DVD burning, and creation of DVD menus. Are there any Ubuntu users who can vouch for a particular program?

Here, look at this.

But honestly, I'm on your teacher's side. If your computers are so crappy that it takes them an hour to load up Adobe Premiere, switching to Ubuntu won't solve anything. It's time to update the hardware.
Also, it's your school paying for them, not you. Why wouldn't you want new PCs?

Quit being chumps and actually give some help, you ain't solving any damn issues with a LMGTFY other than being a asshat for someone thats asking, maybe he wanted a first handed opinion on the matter NOT GOOGLE FU.

done with that rant,

i can't vouch how far your needs are but this is a great program for video editing though i can't remember how well it handled menus plus theres hoops to jump to get that to work in ubuntu.

as for a program that runs in ubuntu natively

good luck

Also, forgot to mention: Ubuntu is not a platform that you'll want to do video editing or graphic design on. Windows or Mac are your best choices.
Maybe in a few years...
