Clearly running multiple missions at the same time is a terrible idea.  The epic battle to see which team can cock it up worse has escalated again.

And Larry kinda gets blueballed in all this; just left with a raging bone spear and no where to put it.

I vote for this one, it has a nice variety to play with and has a lot of space for making interesting tech with the nanites and energy armor.

Note that the Rakwell Treaty of 2xxx placed severe limits on nanotechnology after the Tertek Grey Goo Incident on the colony Rakwell 9(mainly, no unrestricted AI for nanomachines+all nanites require hardwired killswitches, as well as severe restrictions on offensive nanites). If you guys feel this is too restrictive I'll let you change the last specialty Edit: decided against nanites


Yeah, that's right, your name is Maxwell Mord, a promising prodigy of prodigious prototypes of Promethean origin(alteration FTW!). You've been recognized for your work in hybrid energy plating, as well as the fields of missile tech and unmanned craft. You return to the front office of the Institute and have your diploma corrected, then fire up your netmail and begin the process of mailing your resume to various public and private enterprises, hoping to be hired quickly(you have all those student loans to pay off, after all!)


A week later, you've received several replies to your inquiries. After sorting through the various junk mail and joke offers(seriously, why would you agree to be a custodian on a small, out of the way space station with YOUR credentials?), you find you actually have 3 serious offers:

Ectodyne Limited is looking for a new engineer. Ectodyne is one of the largest government shipyards in the Terran Republic, and it isn't often that they hire. Your resume must have impressed someone important!
Pros:Job security-your bosses will tolerate a lot of mistakes and screwups(it is a government job, after all!)
Your designs are sure to be built if your bosses like them!(note in this business most workers are paid per design produced)
Cons:You have very little say in what projects you are assigned
You'll likely be starting small, with drones and such


Berret Ships has an opening in their Fleet design division
A friend of yours from school is a senior partner in his family's shipyard and has sent you an offer to join his company.
Pros:You have a lot more flexibility in what you can design(up to a certain size of course)
You already have connections for advancement

Cons:You still have to adhere to size restrictions placed on you
No guarantee your designs will be chosen or built


Colony TYX-9-B Has need of ship engineer to head their new shipyard
A new member colony on the frontier has need of a capable person to jumpstart their ship production and military programs
Pros:You are the master of your fate, and can design ANYTHING that comes to your fancy
Being the guy in charge of the shipyard comes with a lot of influence with the planetary government

Cons:Being a frontier colony, you'll have to balance what you WANT to design against what they can realistically produce
TYX-9-B is WAAAAY out on the frontier, meaning long travel times and no guarantee that your job(and life!) is safe in case of....unforeseen circumstances

id say the first order of business for tyx-9-b should be a bunch of asteroid miners and the like so the colony can produce enough raw metal to fabricate the larger ship designs.

That would also mean building a larger craft as an armed transport to get the ore back to the colony safely, probably two frigates each with there own drone forces so they can trade off days and nights to allow for the most possible mining, I hope we have enough materials to at least get that done so we can get a better supply chain going.

I suggest a custom drone with nanites that work through the asteroids of every drone marking the ore within them to be collected easier, light armor with basic energy disruptors to reduce or dissipiate energy weapon blasts with a laser on each flank which is strong enough to cut an asteroid or a ships hull and the best AI possible.
High speed and transforms into a smaller form when it's offline for easier storage.

A frigate with 4 expanded cargo holds each able to hold 100 drones and as much ore as possible, heavy armor with the best energy disruptors possible, a set of custom anti ship missiles fired from top mounted launchers, nanites spread all throughout the ship to repair damage as soon as it happens and at least 3 batteries of guns 2 of them laser on the flanks the third a kinetic gun on the rear with the strongest possible engines.
Since it's role is as an armed transport for the ore it'd be a valuable target for pirates on it's return trip so it needs the armor and weaponry to run a fighting battle all the way home.



Just my ideas mind but thats how I'd start off on the colony, the drones in numbers could overwhelm smaller ships the frigate is a little slow but designed to repel assaults from superior forces.any energy based weaponries shots as soon as they enter the field, the heavier the armor the stronger the field. Once we have the basic one when we have spare people we can advance it more to expand it's power and range as an energy weapon defense for all our ships and probably modify it to serve other purposes.

The energy disruptor is a kind of energy field radiated from the armor that constantly drain

Needless to say I vote for Tyx-9-b

I'd like Option A or C.

A gives us nice stuff, C gives us freedom, B gives us nothing special.

I'd say we wait with designing ships till the GM introduces the colony.

Also, that's not how nanites work.

Those are videogame nanites. With equals Magic, nowadays.

Realistically. A nanite is dependent on 3 things.
-Power (Most probably magnetic of microwave)
-Materials (Single monecule)
-Triggers/bindable materials

Those are also all you can do to control it. A single nanite can't design a complex structure. For that same purpose, it also can't repair complex things, unless both nanite and to be repaired object are designed/prepped for it. We are talking about artificial proteins, not magic tiny robots. Adding to that, they have, like proteins, very limited temperature and pressure ranges in which they can operate.

Oh, and marking unprocesed ores is quite useless. Because, you know, it's the same as grabbing a box full or red, blue and orange cubes, sorting them, adding red, blue and orange stickers to them, and then throw them into the box. The sorting hasn't been made any easier, as the technology required to filter the ores already existed (how else do you add the markers), and really scanning for a trigger monecule is only marginally easier than scanning for a normal monecule.
