No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

You find these assistants to be acceptable, and finalize your arrangements to one week from today. Logging off from the terminal with a smile, you quickly make arrangements to put your affairs in order to travel to the system...

A few weeks later, the rip drive of the tramp ferry you are riding shuts down as it enters the system on approach with Jotun, and what looks like a Guardian-class orbital base with a shipyard built around it. Soon, the ferry docks with the station, and you are met by the governor as you disembark. He greets you warlmy and quicklly escorts you to your new office aboard the station, while filling you in on the system's most pressing needs:

Due to being on the edge of the frontier, Republic patrols are pretty infrequent, and small at that. This is starting to cause problems with pirates growing bold at the lack of a military footprint. They've already staged a couple organized raids on a couple asteroid extraction facilities for refined ore to sell on the black market. A drone or ship capable of defending the extraction bases would be appreciated

The mining ships used, while adequate and cheap, are pretty outdated and are mostly defenseless. A better, more modern mining ship that carries some light weapons for emergencies would be a good idea

The Minister of Defense wants a flagship as the core of the Planetary Defense Fleet. It's not a pressing priority, but he feels if there is at least one cruiser-sized ship in the system at all times, the pirates would look elsewhere for easier prey...

He also goes over the facilities you have to work with:

The station is a standard Guardian A, with enough heavy railguns and lasers to deter anything other than a fleet attack on the planet. It made sense to build the shipyard around it for protection, and they've built it up enough for cruiser-sized ships to be built. However, repair facilities are still under construction, so repair and refit is limited to the base's integral repair stations, which are rather small. Redundancy in ship systems, therefore, would be much appreciated by the station workmen.

At this point, you reach your office and meet your assistants. The governor smiles one last time and leaves you to work, while your 3 assistants look on expectantly. What do you build first?

For sanity's sake, I'm limiting you guys to 2 projects a time. Remember to use the template for designing a project, and keep this limit in mind when designing multiple-moth designs!

Clearly running multiple missions at the same time is a terrible idea.  The epic battle to see which team can cock it up worse has escalated again.

And Larry kinda gets blueballed in all this; just left with a raging bone spear and no where to put it.

Name: Sunrise
Desired volume: 20 m3
Team:  Everyone
Estimated time:  2-3 months
General description of the idea:
Light defensive kamikaze drone, with a pointy form. Simple AI, aiming system, foe\friend identification, battery to operate, rocket engine and hard armor to act like an AP round and make holes in enemy ships.

Name: Protector turret
Volume: 125 m3
Team: Everyone
Estimated time: 1 month
AI laser autonomous turret designed to be attached to existing civilian vessels. If possible use some existing laser design to save designing costs. That's a short time measure until we design a proper mining ship to replace our dating vessels

im curious as to why you want to spend 2-3 months on a throwaway drone requiring a base 1 month to research and only 1 month on a non-disposable weapons platform that requires a base of 2 months for quality design.

also you forgot the 5 design priorities

Because
a) that's not finished proposals

b) Disposable drones require some advanced stuff, nice armor piercing capabilities, friend to foe, battery, course laying, engines while turret is a simple thing - point a laser at enemy and fire. And we need it earlier than later

I am wondering why the  topic is not popular? I Remember several pages per half a day when I ran that thing

Your protector turret is basically my turret design except for the fact it attaches to a hull instead of being self propelled and is 25m3 larger thus requiring an additional month of design to achieve the same level of quality.

im actually somewhat interested in a hybrid design for that one, if we reduce its size by 25m3 and give it maneuvering thrusters as well as its attachment capabilities it would only take 1 month to design a higher quality platform and it would be able to be detached to harass enemy ships or form defensive lines.

so what do you think about putting forth my mining vessel and the hybrid turret for our current projects?

also the popularity issues probably have something to do with the arguments between myself and ebbor relating to whether certain technologies are possible :(

Quick bump to the front page. Do you guys think if I reboot this I might get more people interested? (I'd do better keeping arguments from going 3 pages before intervention)

It is a distinct possibility.
