Oh, and putting a soldier on 'Agressive' means they'll focus on carrying out your orders, no matter what happens. Having them on normal means they'll frequently stop when they see an enemy, and shoot at them. Also, they'll occasionally sidestep when on normal, if they feel they have cover to one side. I probably should have mentioned that a while ago.

I guess Aavak is nice enough to take orders from a Squad Leader. Or something. Hmm...

I like to think my rank would only be a field rank, yet out of the field I am the leader. Once again I'm adding to the custom XCOM fanfic I seem to be creating in my mind.

I'm just going to put every troop aggressive, I think doing what I say is better than risking them pausing, especially on real-time. As for the interceptor thing getting a Hawk Air Warrior was my plan at a push, or arming a second interceptor and stationing it in XCOM HQ. Two interceptors and some hover-cars should suffice for a few weeks at least until hings start ramping up.

Should we not be helping the police? Sir?

The funny thing is, I'm going to get paid for doing absolutely nothing when week one ends.

They can actually handle themselves surprisingly well, though I don't mind getting caught up in a fight and lending them a hand, we will certainly not make a habit of it. Since, it'd mean firing on the criminal syndicates and I want them to remain friendly for now. Note the words 'for now'.

Now I wonder why we don't see Marsec shooting people.

Oh, and why do they have roads? I think I saw a few roads.

Some people can't afford these fancy 'Hover vehicles', so they just make do with boring ground vehicles. Unfortunately, balance between ground and air vehicles is terrible, meaning ground loses out in every way except anti-building firepower and raiding buildings, so no-one ever really bothers with them, as air vehicles can still do all that, they're just not quite as good. I did once try having a few tanks with AA Missiles stationed by the dimension gates, but they were fragile as hell and didn't contribute much, so I can't recommend it.

I think there's a mod out there to make ground vehicles more competetive, with a few buffs to stats and weapon choices (Heavy Disruptors on the Tank, for instance), along with making roads take a lot more punishment (Currently, it doesn't matter how tough a ground vehicle is, if the road beneath it is destroyed, it dies. Roads are extremely fragile.)

In think we should just buy a crapton of Elerium, and arm our vehicles with plasma and Sports engines.

Well, I actually had really good mileage with the Griffon heavy tank with a disruptor turret. Position it well and it can really take chunks out of the bigger baddies. I also had decent mileage with smaller vehicles during invasions. They work well as fire support, as long as they are allowed to keep their range OR they have excellent speed.

My mid-late game strategy is a bunch of hoverbikes with plasma cannons, as Plasma Cannons and Prophet Missiles are the only human weapons capable of punching out the last few UFOs, and late game UFOs have more than enough firepower to take out a big target like a Valkyrie or Hawk, but have trouble hitting tiny little hoverbikes. Don't bother wasting elerium on the first few weeks of UFOs, and never buy the smaller plasma guns. Elerium is far too scarce to waste on weaker guns and enemies.

I'm fairly sure the Griffon only gets disruptor turrets with the Roadwar mod, which is dedicated to making ground vehicles actually useful. A GLM Array Griffon could be useful fire support, but to be honest, I can think of many things I'd rather spend that money on.

Ah, right, I was thinking of the Rumble Cannon link. As it doesn't need ammo, it's fun.

Also yeah, the GLM for either the tank or other vehicles. That's how I used those, I forgot that their existed :D
Yeah, I like the ground vehicles. But also, I'm sorry for derailing the thread a bit Blank!

You know, I've been wanting to do a Let's Play of X-COM: Enemy Unknown, but I don't know how well a subtitle/screenshot LP of that game would work, since I don't have anything I could record my voice with.
Maybe I could stream it or something?

Or maybe I could do a hybrid sort of thing where I have videos of battles and screenshots of everything else.
I dunno. Maybe this calls for an interest thread.

Streaming would work, but steamers are commonly expected to at least talk through their play.

If you are in North America, electronics stores sell headsets around $10-$15 which give okay quality of sound from their mic. Not ideal, of course, but it can get you started!

In Western Canada specifically, London Drugs sells (or used to sell) a stand-alone mic for about $15-$25 that also gives decent quality.

I just read something interesting on TV Tropes. I don't know if you qualify yet, but if you do quote, "very very good" unquote, the Senate will decide that you're very cost efficient and actually reduce your funding.

Well let's just say there are other reasons I don't own a microphone.
Also, sorry for advertising my own thread in yours, Blank, but here's my interest thread thingy.
