I somehow doubt that - I've read on various internet trawls that the optimistic release date for Winds of Winter is 2018 sometime, which means 2020 earliest probably.

Also also seriously this season has just been one long awaited companions meet again moment after another, and every one of them has been a let down. Feels like you could just exchange the dialogue for any two of them and you wouldn't be able to tell them apart, the dialogue is that toothless.

Lastlyalso what a let down Littlefinger's death was. I liked the comeuppance "judgement" scene enough, I feel like they brought his mayor crimes and it was nice seeing Royce turn against him too (Seriously you do not fuck with the Bronze, he has a magic armour and don't afraid of anything), but I wanted something a bit grander than a nick to the throat. I wanted to see that smug head roll, I guess.

The trouble with Petey is that he didn't really do anything all season. Sansa could've had him killed as soon as Aejon gave her command of Winterfell and it wouldn't have made a difference - if anything, it would've been better to see her taking initiative like that. Fingey's narrative value ran out last season though, ever since he left the Vale he'd been indecisively creeping around.

Also.

Lyanna. You wanted Jon to stay safe, you wanted Ned to keep him safe, but you named him Aegon Targaryen. That's totally not gonna be suspicious, no sir.

Finales are, perhaps surprisingly, not the AGOT writing staff's strong suit. I mean the past several have, while possessing both good and bad parts, all pretty much jumped the shark.

The transition away from the narrative has ben pretty lazy I think, and they've all but squandered several golden plot lines. It's still a pretty good show, but the plot armor and stupid shit hit a little harder recently.

There has certainly been a lot more "Well, the story needs these characters to do these things for these other things to happen so...go!" regardless of how much sense it makes for the characters or whether there are better solutions at hand. But at least they've managed to continue to be entertaining.

For the record, part of my skepticism of GRRM stems from having serious doubts that he has any better resolutions for the plot that the TVGoT writers do. I think he has a huge block, and has lost control of his bloated plotlines.

And yet he survived (well, sort of, he died once) and nobody got really suspicious, maybe because, I dunno, Lyanna didin't fucking tell him "you have to tell everyone his name is Aegon pls, it's important, promise me Ned", but rather "keep him safe pls", which, I assume, included changing his name.

Though this is hollywood logic - lack of balls means invincigroin, and you can Homer Simpson your way to victory. Just let the opponent pummel you senseless till they get tired, and then magically win in like 2 hits.

Given that this is the one and only bone they're ever going to throw Theon - because let's be honest Yara's totally gonna end up dead or dying too late to be saved when they show up to rescue her and it's gonna be all dramatic and terrible and shit and it's gonna be a big lesson about how Theon has to define his own identity for the sake of his dead sister and blah blah whatever the fuck - I'm willing to let a bit of implausible urethra trauma slide
