Tywin Lannister was alright. In the show, at least.

Couldn't stop his offspring from infighting (or inbreeding) despite all of his legacy resting upon designating a suitable heir

Tywin was bretty good still and his negotiations with the Reach were some of the highpoints of the show, but he still didn't find a proper way to fix the Westerosi debt crisis, despite all of Mace Tyrell's best efforts at the Iron Bank (largely because of Arya being cheeky).

Arya walking around nonchalantly, being completely oblivious to obvious assassin.

Something smells fishy.

Also wtf is going on with Brotherhood without Banners...butchering innocents now?

It didn't seem like they were acting on official Brotherhood business. You can be an asshole who extorts people in any army.

e: although there is the question of how they fund themselves. Insurgent groups with noble causes are rarely without sin.

We see before they're having trouble funding themselves, and given that the Lannisters had until recently withdrawn from the Riverlands they were also running out of wealthy military targets to pilfer

Still, point is killing Freys, which are still not poor. Why would you kill random settlers when you can kill Freys and their offspring or their subjects instead of Riverland subjects. Also the boss of that three man group there reminded me more of that mercenary company the Lannisters had hired than the BwB.

Another possibility might simply be: it wasn't hte BwB, the three guys i mean. might be someone completely else murdered the folks and the bwbw had the bad luck to come by and be all ominous beforehand.

Most of the Freys wealth is locked up in the Twins, which the BWB have no hope of stealing, and the Freys don't really do patrols (given how Riverrun was retaken). The Hound tells whats his face that his merry group of pilgrims do have something worth stealing - iron and women, though they seem to have killed all the women so I guess they just wanted iron or the women were taken off screen. They could be some of the Mercenaries, that is in their modus operandi and those mercs were from across the sea (therefore also followed the Red God), but it is much more likely to just be D&D not having consistent portrayals again.

The thing that surprised me the most was that the Hound seemed genuinely surprised. It's quite clear beforehand that he knew what was going to happen, he even warns the jolly beat priest that, so I thought him standing out of the clearing was deliberate in a sort of "there's no helping you way" similar to the Riverlander father from s3 or 4. But nah, he seems genuinely surprised

I didn't really read surprise out of him. I thought it was more "I told you and you should have listened, this makes me angry and a bit sad". Sandor still has a bit of humanity, and some amount of time not being a remorseless murderer might have increased that to the point where maybe he cared a bit.

If Cleganebowl (get hype) is indeed happening this season, I wonder how Sandor's gonna go from hunting the Brothers Without Banners in the middle of nowhere to repping the faith militant in King's Landing.

I mean, the answer is that he teleports, but supposing we rule that out I have no idea why he'd even go to King's Landing. It's a safe bet that the Lannister armies have a standing order to arrest or kill him, and he's a pretty distinctive dude. The Faith may have control of the city but they're not psychic, and they can't stop the city guards from arresting Sandor if they get to him first.
