Maybe you should stop reading so far into things.

Yeah. Just because there are two obvious antagonical elemental forces, one based on fire and the other on ice, that between them control around 70% of the setting's magic (the remaining 30% being the various warlocks, alchemists, wargs, Faceless men, rogue maesters, and independent wizards), and they get mentioned right in the title, doesn't mean that the book's overarching theme is about that. Don't be too hasty to jump to conclusions.


Myself, I think the book is about Hodor's struggle with his odor.

I'm not saying Rollaholla is 100% right in it's faith and mythology, by the way, just that it's fairly easily identifiably as being on the "fire" side. That does not mean I think it is "good" either, it's definitely a cruel and unpleasant interpretretation of it - particularly Melisandre's ways. But then again, so were the Weirwood/Old Gods faith back when weirs were still functional.

Dragons are another obvious "fire" thing, being most literally fire as they are. And there's the part where magic had almost died out until suddenly dragons return and magic flares up everywhere with renewed strength - the priest of Rhollor in the Band of Brothers and his sudden magic abilities being the perfect example.

And so much for Jon Snow too. Poor Jon Snow. I guess what I like the least is that he died to douchey characters. On the other hand, I thought he was dead multiple times before this. Maybe that's what makes this seem like more of a shitty death. A lot of deaths I did not expect this episode. Sort of looked like a suicide jump for Theon and Sansa too. If the fall to the courtyard killed the other chick, a fall from the outer wall....

After watching this long, the theme of GoT story arcs seems to be "take a really long time to build up to something, then die." Stannis, Snow, Rob Stark, characters go on for a while doing "things" before getting gakked without any resolution to their primary goal, in fact a total collapse of it sometimes. Same for Melisandre I suppose? She's like the ultimate "Been around for 7 seasons doing nothing" character as I've said before.

Cersei walk of shame was pretty horrific too. As much as she's hateable, that was a hard scene to watch. I love Jonathon Pryce and he had me fooled he was a good character, even after the crazy religious zealotry started to show. After the walk of shame though....pretty clear he's kind of sadistic.

And now Danaerys is back to being a captive of the the Dothraki. She's come full circle.

Havent seen the episode yet, but is it crystal clear he's dead? I tend to assume bait and switch. Mannis is set up to be a main antagonist

I don't like that Jon Snow died before deciding to take men to the South and fight for Winterfell. It made the decision to kill him much more understandable (as he was clearly breaking his vows).

And I cannot feel bad for Cersei. The walk of shame wasn't nice, but since we're talking about "I send people that bother me to be tortured by Qyburn" Cersei, she deserves it. I mean, all in all, she only had to suffer humiliation.
