I just realized the Mountain was played by 3 different guys in 3 different seasons. Not as disturbing as that sellsword that bangs dany, but still. They're fucking Game of Thrones, why can't they keep their actors?

Good god look at Bjornsson's hands compared to Pascal's. They're literally twice as big.

Also, for a first time (I think) actor, Bjornsson did pretty good as the Mountain. It would've been nice if Conan Stevens had kept the job because he looked scary as shit, but I definitely wasn't disappointed.
Apart from shields not existing in TV Westeros. Seriously, Kingsguard got no shield, Gregor got no shield, Stannis got no shield...the only one I've seen is on Ser Vardis, the doughtiest motherfucker alive or dead.

First actor went to play a part in the Hobbit but then Peter Jackson was Peter Jackson. Second guy I dunno, think he was busy or something.

Come on, how many time do they actually need to fight anything? Did they have shield at the battle of blackwater? That's about the only time they'd make sense.

The people in westeros tend to only use shields when at war.

Also Stannis uses other people's shields, does that count? I reckon it's a product of all the main characters loving greatswords or bastard swords. Maybe Westeros is at the point where everyone is using spears so outside of personal duels shields aren't all that. The unsullied have the best shields by far what with them being pseudo hoplites and all, but when we see grey worm fight on his own even then he doesn't use his shield much. The show hates shields.

They use shields at the Hand's tourney at least. And that knight for fight Bronn at the Vale use a shield too.

And then you have Tyrion:



But anyway, in King's Landing, the King's Guard's role is mostly ceremonial. Asking why they don't have shield makes as much sense as asking why the beefeaters don't have assault rifles.

I do suspect that Tyrion was deeply involved in Orson being kicked by the donkey on that fateful day, which I guess is a neat insight in the mind of Tyrion; protecting the endless slaughter of beetles by the morons of the world. Considering how only a few maesters and maybe goatbeard and gash can claim to be smarter than Tyrion, this would go at some lengths to explaining how he developed the moral gonads to stand up to Joffrey and Tywin in defence of anyone who was an outcast.

And I swear that was a woodlouse, so not really a beetle?

Well, I, uh, was hoping to be pleasantly surprised by the duel. I was not. In the most horrible way possible. Damn, though, his whole death by overconfidence was screamingly obvious. Seeing it coming doesn't make me feel any better, though. Fuck.

Other high points of epi: Arya 'omfg did i just arrive just in time for a relative to die AGAIN' manic laughter was amazing. Ramsay and Roose's tender father-son bonding time was truly touching. Sansa transforms from Disney princess to Disney evil queen? I have no idea of what's going on there. I'm also glad something new/interesting happened in Dany and Jorah's interaction, even if I never expected anything this dramatic.

Yeah, but I'm not sure that distinction would have been very relevant to any of the people in the story.
