The books get tired and lose their pace after the third. I doubt GRRM even wants to finish the series. I want to see how the show redeems the emptiness of books four and five.

lol That would be awesome! Does anybody else over here have faith in R R Martin in peacefully concluding the series, because from part 1 to 5 there seems to be only more and more complexities added, I really wonder HOW is he going to conclude it in just 2? more books. For that matter He is YET to add soo much more.

It's rather easy. He's stopped adding PoV characters. Everything from this point forward is descending action from an arc perspective. Feast and Dance were rebuilding books to launch us into the grand conclusion. Things begin resolving, truly resolving, from this point forward.

The question will be if he can keep pace with the show, because the show's going to keep going forward with its own thing until it hits a conclusion or a cancellation.

People travelled places in long travelogues, the best characters like tyrion became boring and unsympathetic, the continuing embarassment of Danaerys wasting time in uninteresting Essos with tired orientalist tropes from the 19th century, Aegon is basically an improbable deus ex machina from nowhere, introduced in a sloppy undramatic manner. We have to read about that boring dornish guy the whole book, merely to watch him be fried. ugh. This series is good until Book 4, no further.

ADWD was bad, and it took six years. There won't be a sixth book, because GRRM is tired of his story.

His backstory is that he spent his whole life hidden in a fishing village, being taught the skills of rulership and war by a small ring of guardians. Compared to the built-up stories of every single other character at this late point in the story arc, Aegon seems flat, uninspired, and as a character, sheltered and improbable.

I guess we'll have to wait for TWOW to find out. Could be a long while.

I think he is just another piece on the board and the ACTUAL protagonist of that particular story arc is his protector whats-his-name.
