I really expected "the biggest fire the north has ever seen" to be more than a big signal fire in the woods. That fire did not burn a single person to death.

The rest of the episode was pretty awesome, but it's hard to focus on that when there's so much crazy shit that's going to happen next episode.

Tyrion's execution is still looming. There are a bunch of people who need their plotlines for this season wrapped up like Stannis and Arya and Bran. I'm sure not all of them will get an epic finale, but some definitely will. Jon Snow will hopefully have his face-off with Mance, though I guess that could be in Season 5 if they want to be cruel.

Also the title of the episode is "The Children", which seems to reference a certain magical extinct race that's probably way more important to the plot than I could comprehend right now. Also all the book readers I know keep telling me how much this episode is going to mindfuck everyone.

Seriously, Giants using bows, and wearing what look like clothing? They're supposed to be giant ape, not giant men. I guess it'll totally mess Wun Wun.

Also, why is everyone milling around in the courtyard waiting for the widlings to pass the gate rather than I don't know, fight them? And the cook? What the fuck.

Really? In the books, the giants have a spoken language (Wun Wun even learns how to speak a few words of the Common Tongue), domesticated animals (the mammoths) and have a leader and everything. I wouldn't call them apes by a long shot.

But on the second thing, I totally agree. I didn't realise it until halfway through the episode, but why aren't the wildlings in Castle Black rushing for the gate instead of trying to kill every NW man? If they open that gate, a hundred thousand men pour through and slaughter everyone. I thought a concerted attack on the gate from both sides was the plan when Mance agreed on a signal however many episodes ago.

As for the episode title "The Children", it's quite brilliant as it refers to many things that will be happening (most of which you've said, but just to add on):

-Arya hopping on a ship to Braavos, finally becoming a free agent instead of being protected/held captive by someone else (like a child)
-Dany in 2 opposite-ish ways: her children (slaves) are now unchained, but start getting killed by the Sons of the Harpy, and her children (dragons) now start killing, and get chained up.
-Lady Stoneheart makes Frey tapestries gets some revenge for her murdered children. I'm quite sure LSH will be the finale.

Basically episode 10 is going to be one long string of HOLY SHIT moments. It's gonna be GREAT.

They also don't have clothes look like giant orangutans and never use weapons more sophisticated than a crude maul. Their "leader" isn't so much a ruler as just the biggest, meanest son of a bitch out there and respected for that.

Granted, I should have complained earlier, when clothed giants were shown when Jon was with the wildlings. But the bow is just too much. Especially since apparently the giant archers shoot a single time, rather than being useful and killing the NW.
