Joffrey's death was hardcore. The Dwarf show was actually pretty funny, and you could see how much it hurt Tyrion. Honestly glad to see Shae gone for at least 5 minutes, god she is annoying (how many times is it she's nearly killed them both over now?!) and I can see Bran is close to discovering his murder kill crusade streak.

And by gods Bastard Bolton is perfect. Loved him in misfits too.

Also yeah, the whole royal wedding was great, especially (for me) the Tywin/Olenna snark.

It was Petyr Baelish, his goattee and Lady Olenna "The Queen of Thorns."

To get any conspiracy as high as assassinating the King done, you either have to have Varys on your side or Petyr, simply because of their massive spy networks allowing for secrecy and so on. Petyr is of course, "in the vale" - who would suspect him at all? Lady Olenna is just a kind old lady, and seemingly incapable of going about such trickery herself.

In any case, Petyr got Sir Dontos to give Sansa his "family's necklace," which was in fact just a fine chain running through crystals of the poison known as the Strangler, which we got to see in action. You can see Olenna get up and approach Sansa to greet her - this is presumably when she grabs a crystal, while they're embracing, and they sit together during the feast so she also has all of that time to act. The rest is history.

Your guess is pretty close. My initial guess would have been Prince Oberyn, when I first read it - he is a master of venoms after all, and venoms aren't all that dissimilar from poisons.

Ramsay is one of my new favourite characters to watch.
Don't get me wrong, I hate the dude's guts for the evil, horrible shit he's done and will be immensely satisfied if/when he dies, but the actor does such a brilliant job. Every scene he's in is creepy as fuck, and the facial expressions he pulls are brilliant, too. Also his apparent friendship with Locke is hilarious.
Just like Joffrey was an evil little prick, but immensely entertaining to watch. They're the 'love-to-hate' kinda characters.

Man, I'm excited to watch more of this season. I've read that Arya and Sandor get a whole heap of screentime, which promises to be awesome.

At first I figured it must have been Prince Overbearing, since he's made no secret of how much he wants revenge.
But then I thought about it, and Loras stormed out during the play shortly before it happened, and the goblet Tyrion gave the king came from the table where his new in-laws were sitting. They seem like decent human beings... and thus perfect candidates to murder Joffrey.
Also of course, Margary is technically the Queen now... although I hardly see that lasting long with the rest of the Lannister clan still holding so much power. Unless the Tyrells have far more soldiers in the Capital than I realise.

I'm not looking for any book-spoilers or whatever, just musing on what seems likely to me.

This season is the second half of the third book, actually. Well, for the most part. It seems like some of the parts of book 5 are being added in where appropriate. They've radically sped one of the plots up. But yes, you're actually not that far behind.

I have not read the books, and I am avoiding book-related spoilers.  Looking at Joffery's death, there is motive and opportunity.

There are so many people with motive that it is kind of meaningless. 

Opportunity-Joffery could have been poisoned by wine or by pie.  He was fed pie by Margarey, who is now 0 for 2 in terms of husbands.

The other possibility is the wine.  What are the odds that Joffery would be abusive towards Tyrion?  Okay, pretty good, but what are the odds that he would use the whole "cup-bearer" routine?  Too random a chance.  The pie, however, is inevitably going to end up in Joffrey's mouth.  Seems like a better bet to me.

Well, he's still the worst parts of Robert and Cersei despite being Jaime's son. Seems a safe bet to me that he'd drink wine.

Also if you look really really close you can see who did it doing it.
