I have only seen short bits of this series, and read about it's plot and characterisation.

The series is irritating. It's makes it worse that GRRM has stated he has does not have an enormous amount of control about it either. I can deal with most of the age switches, maybe the cast switch ups (*shrug* I'll develop this later), and a good bit of the casting, but it is irritating. The best fuckup they've done is the Imp, and it's still a fuckup. Tyrion is sympathetic, yes, but it's punctuated by playing up the reputation he's been given. Tyrion has a sharp wit, which is to say it cuts. He is not always nice, or helpful. If they screw up the obvious spoiler here, then the show is not A Song of Ice and Fire.

Basically, by the time I got to that scene in the books, I was at the place where I was nearly depressed from the slow fall into darkness. (at least, that's what I remember) I believe I fistpumped in real life when I got to that moment. It's a scene I've been looking forward to in the show ever since the TV series was announced.

There are some key differences in where they seem to be taking the plot in the show that I am very interested in seeing developed. I know not everyone is a fan of the changes they've made, but I can sort of see where they want to go with it from a production standpoint. The show is most certainly not a 1-for-1 translation of the books, it could never be that in the first place. I like to think of them as somewhat separate things that happen to share ... well, a hell of a lot.

Also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3b7fZIT0nk (Don't read the comments unless you've seen s3e3, or have read the first half of ASOS)

Quick edit: Maybe just don't read the comments at all.

Same here. It's one of those "YES!" moments you sometimes get. As for Pod's skills? I have a vague idea that tyrion may have paid them to say that. Overheard it but didn't watch it however. Regardless, Pod's a badass.

I just saw a huge spoiler. I just saw that
Up until now, I knew what the event was called but nothing else about it. Some book person please tell me there's more to it than that. I don't want to know what, but I would feel comforted if there was other crazy shit that I'm blissfully unaware of.

The books get tired and lose their pace after the third. I doubt GRRM even wants to finish the series. I want to see how the show redeems the emptiness of books four and five.
