He doesn't like gods. Stannis is the exemplar of medieval ideals, and funnily enough most people don't like him. You can see why melisandre beelined for him. A lot of the draw is seeing the interesting ways he bends.

In the books he's literally described as more likely to shatter than bend. In the tv show he's forgetting all of his vows left right and center like there's no more tomorrow!

I know, that's why I'm referencing it. Every compromise is more likely to shatter him, or at least his teeth.

The ease at which he called for Davos's execution speaks a little against 'compromise.'

I'm talking about the books. I don't really watch the series that much, except for the red wedding I'm still only 3 episodes in season 3.

Okay, that one scene might have been dumb. I'll have to rewatch it. I feel like he made up for it a bit by trying to apologize to his wife - no other king would do that.

I generally like characters better in the books, but then you just cannot develop them as well in the series. Except maybe Bolton, I really like TV Bolton.

I mostly agree except when it comes to Bran, Arya, Tyrion, and Robert. With Bran and Arya it might be because I know what's going to happen, with Tyrion it's because detail has been removed (necessary I know), and with Robert it's because he didn't sound like Brian Blessed .

Arya is significantly more badass in the books, yeah. Also, another limitation of the TV format is that you cannot show the character's thoughts. Especially for character like Tyrions, it makes a difference.


I'm glad they finally did the "Oh, a coin? SLASH!" trick.

I think Dany is hurt the most by not having her thoughts laid out. I haven't gotten to the Season 3 events in the books yet, but my friend says her logic when she's sacking cities and shit is really interesting.

In the show it's still badass, but it looks like a lot of "Oh, there's no way you can succeed here!" followed by "Oh, Dany found the third option nobody else thought of" like five times in a row. I've started to wonder why she has advisors when she ignores them and comes up with her own superior idea every single time anything important happens.
