Well, looks like you don't need my response, now, but I spent time on it, so here is my effort for everyone else to laugh at.

UK person...  Who is shocked at some of the spellings (assuming it's not meant to be merely phonetic).

16. What do you call the object a woman carries with her that contains her wallet, checkbook, keys, lipstick and other necessities?
This one bemused me and my fiancee (who never wears makeup, ever). Lipstick is not a necessity to even your average woman! :P Maybe some women, but they're the exception, not the rule. Just like how Gene Simmons wearing makeup does not mean all men wear it.

Quote from: Chesterton
For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Speaking of the research data:  How do the smartass remarks made by some of us affect the results? :P

It made the paper more interesting to write, certainly. I wish that I'd had the freedom to create my own survey, as well. Including local/regional cultural references as question prompts in a survey specifically intended to be distributed to speakers across a large geographical area is asinine. The best part was the bit about the chewing 'baccy, because not even people from the immediate area will recognize a specific brand of chewing tobacco if they don't use it. But I made the best I could of it.

Thanks again to all you helpful people!
Especially the ones that responded after the paper was completed.  :P

I guess this survey is aimed at native English speakers only.

A very specific subset thereof, actually.

Doubtful. Even those of us who have English as a third/second language could still take this :P

Yeah, the issue I had with it was that it was specifically intended to cover a wide range of regionalisms (at the very least the continental U.S., likely more given the influence of American English on the language), but the individual responsible for designing the survey which we were required to use was... less than careful in eliminating local and regional cultural references that would fly over the heads of people from the same region, much less from all over the world.

I haven't gotten a grade back for it yet, and given the pace of this professor I probably won't until the last possible second before final grades are due. :x
