Kill Will (A Revenge Quest Suggestion Game...With a Twist)
« on: April 20, 2013, 12:13:36 pm »

Date: September 17, 1779
Location: Gallows, Oxand City, Louiscant Province, Marksworth Kingdom, Somewhere in Central Europe
Event: Alfred Conner to be hung, on account of homicide.

-----

"The son of a bitch deserved it! You'll all be the killers of an innocent man, all of you!" You stumble as you walk up the gallows, partly trembling in fear and rage, partly do the jostling of the executioner behind you. You make it to the top platform dressed in simple clothing, a tight knot constricting your wrists behind you. Soon enough you stand underneath the noose, standing in front of a mass containing hundreds of people, here to witness your end. The rope is fastened around your neck. Taking one last look at your witnesses you cry out in a pained yowl, "DAMN YOU WILLIAM!" The trap door beneath you opens. You fall.

-----

Alfred's neck acts like a grape in a printing press, seconds after you pull the lever and allow him to end. There's a collective silence among the crowd, including a few fainting ladies. It's a new experience for you as well, you've never executed a nobleman before. You gaze at the cadaver, pondering his last words. William. Who in the Lord's name was William? There was no William here. You turn and walk down the gallows steps, the guards and witnesses complimenting your handywork. And yet, you cannot stop thinking about this William character. Alfred knew no William. Alfred murdered his wife. William...

The marshal approaches you. "Fine job Hubert, keep this up and soon you'll get that promotion! In the meantime, get back to the prison. The inmates are acting rowdy again and we could use all the men we can get."

Game: Since I didn't make it clear enough, the object of this game is to discover the atrocity that William did, find him, and then kill him. The path to this goal can be done anyway you want. Note that if William kills you, the game ends.

However, there is a twist in how your journey to kill William will be done. It's a secret for now, but will probably be revealed soon...

How did no one pick this up?!

Go back to prison. Subdue inmates.

You head back to the stone fortress of a prison, the largest prison in the whole province excluding the one inside the capital. It's clear to you that some commotion has started, what with the screams and sounds of men being thrown about and hit with blunt objects. As you come to the courtyard, you find dozens of men in their dirty, ramshackled clothing attacking the guards en masse. Pulling out your club, you join your companions in a quest of beating the prisoners back, striking them on the head and shoulders. With your provided assistance as a spearhead, the guards manage to gain control of the situation.

Soon the courtyard is finished, and the guards move into the cell hallway, where any remaining inmates are beaten down. You charge ahead of everyone, but an unseen assailant pulls you out of the hall and tosses you into the wall of his cell. As you make haste to get up, he draws out a kitchen knife.

Finish getting up, when he comes at you, focus on his knife/arm first, then go for a weak point- throat, eyes, groin, then use a powerful finisher to further disorient him and end the fight asap. Grappling is good for controlling the fight, I assume we're a large dude.

Alternate possibilities:
Wants to say something, so don't want to bumrush him.
He's an assassin and this was a ploy to get at you- doubtful, too early for conspiracy, no reason.

He's an assassin and this was a ploy to get at you- doubtful, too early for conspiracy, no reason.

You draw your club at the prisoner, each of you wielding your one-handed weapon intimidatingly. You begin strafing each other, both waiting to find just the right time to surprise the other with a preemptive strike. As you see the prisoner go into a weak stance, you drive forward with a vertical strike. He's more agile than you thought, as he dodges your club, which barely connects with his shirt. Before you can recover, he drives the point of the knife into your right arm. Blood seeps out of your wound and you are forced to drop your weapon. Just as you buckle, you know that this miscalculation has cost you your life, as he thrusts the knife into you, this time through your neck....

-----

You pull your knife out of the guard's neck. He was a tough man, having taken down many of your fellow inmates, although he did not match your quick feet, and thus met his end. As soon as you remove your knife, your consciousness if filled with a question. 'Where is William?' The revelation is startling, as you have no idea what stimulated you to make this thought, nor who William is. You begin to rack your memory, but stop yourself. You have to get out of here, you're positive more guards are on their way in. You could head to the courtyard, but the battle could be going either way there right now, and if the guards are winning you'll be subdued. On the other hand, you could sneak through the cafeteria and out the kitchen, but you'd have to do so with great stealth.

NOOOO! Not Ferdynand! He was going to get a promotion!

Based on our slim build and clairvoyant trans-character knowledge, lets go sneaking through the kitchen
, (though one wonders, why'd we leave that location? (kitchen knife))

Exploit the situation.

Peer through the memories you may or may have not gained from the guard.

((I wonder, if we become who killed us, then what if we...))
Fall into depression from our horrible existence and the fact we just murdered a man whose only crime was to do his job, slice your throat.

I think that'll just end the game- being killed by william ends the game & that's even less of a paradox than what you described.

-we should carry a rabid badger in a cage with us, just in case things go bad in the william fight. We'll name him 'Plan B'.

Your thoughts go back to the guard, who seems to have implanted the thoughts about William into your head through some mystical means upon his death. You take a brief moment to think. Really, you haven't gained any knowledge of his life, rather, the life of another man. Alfred Conner. He was hung by the guard, because of William. William is responsible for the death of Alfred. For that, he must die. That's all you know.

Snapping to reality you peak your head out of your room. The hallway is clear, though the battle in the courtyard is still under way. You sneak away from the courtyard and towards the kitchen, holding your knife close. (You managed to steal the knife yesterday, as many of the inmates did similar things in the planning of this prison riot and subsequent outbreak.) Getting to the kitchen, you stick and hide in the shadows as a squad of guards runs past you. With your quick wits, you remain undetected and escape the prison through the kitchen's back door.

You find yourself in the alley behind the prison, free in the grimy, dangerous part of the city you are so familiar with. You deeply inhale your first breath of free air, taking in the smell of sewer, smoke and sanguine. Ah, home sweet home. You need to get somewhere safe and out of this prison uniform, as there is no doubt that the night watches and city garrison will be searching for escaped convicts. Although they aren't soldiers, these men have fighting experience under their belt, and are armed with deadly weapons.

Find some of our closer criminal connections, and ask them for info about this "William".
