You were just named Archmage!
« on: April 19, 2013, 06:55:29 pm »

The council just named you The Archmage of the Aljerenian College of Magic.

A most unfortunate situation, as it means you will be surely sent to the northern lands. Lands that are currently being invaded by the armies of the Ferelon, and being sent to combat their armies will probably culminate in a very painful and anticlimactic death, just like the ones of the  past three archmages. Still, if you play your cards right, you may be able to free yourself from such a cruel fate. Or even maybe, succeed in defeating this great foe and find yourself among the greatest heroes of the world.

This is not the most adequate time to meditate about what to do, as the elders impatiently wait for your response. It’s pretty clear you should say something instead of being petrified in your seat like you have been for the past several minutes,  but the question of  Who are you to deserve such fate? has firmly taken hold of your mind and shows no signs of going away until it's answered.

You are a human from Delener Delener is one of the oldest and wealthiest kingdoms in the world. Its inhabitants have practiced the arts of Necromancy and Summoning since the first era, two of the arts in which you excel. You are a born leader and count with a huge amount of economical resources.

You are a dwarf from Orrosk Even tough dwarves are not known from their magical prowess; you posses a very solid grasp of both Fire/Earth Magic and Enchanting techniques, and unlike most of the other mages you also are a talented sword fighter.

You are an elf from Iliea Elves are the most magically talented race. You have studied water magic and Illusion since your childhood, and have come to master both of them. Like most elves you are very good at sneaking and have a strong connection with the natural world.

We are a human from Delener. Let's raise our own army, if we have to fight a foe.

Human cause necromancy, summoning, leader and good eco. We don't need sword as we've can get undeads, summons and soldiers who die for us. Elves, well if we want to be spy, dwarves not really nope.

We are a Dwarf from Orrosk. We don't need armies of either living or undead. We win by having a small band of loyal friends at our side, with our ancestor's sword in our hands.

And magic items. And fireballs. And maybe some golems.

By the way, +1 to dwarf.

Dwarf. We use the Roman approach of sending the new soldiers in first, using flaming and earthen barriers to interrupt battles, then giving the survivors enchanted hear to keep the valuable forces alive...

And we will accept the posting, but take the long way around so as to recruit additional forces. And the council has to provide us a comfortable train so that we will have somewhere to plan and organise and such while in transit.

Human. Army mode: go.

You were born in one of the wealthiest families of Delener, something that of course guaranteed the best education the land had to offer. Your instructors discovered you had a great proficiency for magical studies and it was arranged that you will be sent to the Aljerenian College of Magic to study the ways of your people. Aside from bribing several authorities and cheating in the entrance exams of the college, its seems that you haven’t done anything to deserve such punishment, and that the gods just enjoy screwing with you.

The metaphysical question finally been answered, and being freed from the paralysis that had invaded you, you state that you are honored to be chosen as the next Archmage and proudly  make the vows of the archmage. The elders then dismiss the rest of the court so they may discuss the current situation in private. Once the other people leave they begin to tell you the few thigs they know about the threat

It seems that the Ferelon have been quickly gaining ground and that their forces are expected to arrive to the gap between the twin peaks in less than a month. Safeguarding the mountain pass lays the dwarven fortress of   Skarrane,   place of great strategic importance you will be sent to defend. Judging for the description of the elders, the place will need all the help it can get.

The elders suggest you to get all the possible allies you can before you start the journey to the fortress; placing a lot of emphasis in asking for help from the elven city-states, perhaps sending a particularly well written letter will be enough to convince them? Also, they tell you that a significant amount of the dwarven army has been annihilated in the war and that its highly unlikely you will convince them to help you.

You will be embarking in this journey in exactly seven days. It’s still early afternoon, What Should you do? Maybe you could look in the library for some information about the war or start the diplomacy right away.
