Autumn: Turn 6

The experiments had gone well. Very well.

Now, the Brood could specialize themselves, and become more adept at their tasks, though it would be at a cost to other tasks which might be equally important. Because of this, the number of such modifications would have to be controlled... some would be needed, but too many risks overspecializing the Brood to a crippling degree.

So they would focus the first such mutation on something that would aid in acquiring new Drones, so that the problems of this specialization could be overcome.

For that, they would need Hunters.

Swift, agile predators, chosen from those Vectors who had claimed the hunters of the forest and plain. Their bodies would be changed, made swifter, lither, more flexible, more capable of capturing or killing creatures in order to bring them back to the Hive for food or reproduction.

Pop: 9

Research:
Hunter Mutation (Secondary Mutation Invention. Modification of Drones to specialize them for pursuit and capture of prey.)

Orders:
Reassign 1 free pop to the Drone Chamber to fill it
Drones to produce and spread Traps with all available IP.

Hunters shift focus to gathering Food, with all free Drones assigned to work with them to do so.

Deep inside her chamber in the towering hive, She who walks in Nightmares continues her experiments. The central chamber is the most central part of the hive, towering fairly high in the sky. Many eggs litter the floor, with drones taking away the hatched vectors, and bringing in new animals, caught in the traps surrounding the hive. The experiments show little signs of success however. Most of the newborn are normal critters, showing no sign of change. In the few who where effected, the change has left them bereft of mind. They are but animals, and never live long.

The population of the Hive has grown.

Research:
-Primitive Weaponry - shields

Clout:-0 ic, 5 food

Construction
-Nothing

Building production:

-Nothing

Other:
-Use 2 clout in order to study "large object, clad in leather".

The priest King and his associates have spend time studying the object, which they have identified as an Elder Tome. Despite the fact that they can read nor write, it seems to give them great insights, and helps progress along.

Population expands.

Research.

Use all RP on animal attraction.

Construction

Devote 1 pop and all IC to producing as many shamanic circles as possible.

The society has made many advancements. The shamans learned to attract and control animal behavious. Where the lesser animals came, those animals of prey quickly followed. A larger cultus center has been constructed, but once again the limits of our society have been reached.

Population growth continues.

The construction of the Great Boat was finished, and a resounding success. Sings were composed to celebrate it, and stories will go down the generations. The other Leviathans are still too far for a trip, but in a couple years it should be possible to reach them. [did I say that Leviathans move about 1-3 meters a day?] Seeing that food is beginning to pile up (especially with the big boat helping with the fishing), some mitoshondr advised to build a place to keep it, preserved from anything that could spoil it. Stories of food shortages are counted in the stone circle, motivating the mitoshondr to work.

Research: Food preservation
Build: MOAR BOATS
Set Counting circle on research.

The construction of boats continues, and another large boat is finished. Some fishermen do note that the large boat is not all that usefull for catching fish, and that foodstocks are slowly dwindling.

A turn will be here later when I figure out tech advancement

Third Tentacle quickly realized the potential of these gasses, and becomes obsessed over them. He is the only squid allowed near, and studies their visions through sleep cycles. He notices that food is piling up quickly, and orders the others to sacrifice it to The Eye.

Clout:
No one is allowed near the gas vents.
Sacrifice half of the food piles to The Eye.

Research:
Save up RP.

Pop:
No change.
Third-tentacle studies the gas vents.

In a moment of fervent religiousness, the squids drop a significant amount of their food supplies into the eye. The whale meat quickly crumbles to ash, and nothing very much happened. The next day however, one of the whale hunters comes back. He made a great discovery, another Eye, not far from the location where they defeated the whales earlier.

The third Tentacle receives no usefull visions.

How very annoying.

However, She Who Walks In Nightmares would perservere. A few lost minds are a small price to pay.

The Brood will triumph, in the end.

The traps, on the other hand, had been very successful, and would do much to help with the growth of the Brood, despite the difficulty of the experiments. They would need a new project, however, for the trap network was already rather extensive, and adding more would not serve especially well.

Perhaps... Yes.

She Who Walks In Nightmares communicates to the Drones, instructing them on a new project, which would allow them more easy access to their domain.

Continue Research on Hunter Mutation.

Production to shift to construction of a Tunnel Network throughout the forest and plains area, using all IC that is produced for this, and ordering all non-specialized drones to assist with its construction.

Dammit, doublepost.

Anyway, everything remains the same, except that you can attempt people actions without Clout. You can use it for a bonus to rolls instead.

The construction of the boats stops, as their usefulness becomes questionable in front of the experience.
Foodstocks are dwindling, but there is still a good amount of stuff in them. However, this means the Mitoshondr must do something about it. Slowing down birthrate would be nice, however nothing can really be done about it. Old Ychtnarley is the only one to decide there.
So the only solution is to increse the amount of food produced.
Reflexion on the use of large nets -similar to the small ones already in use- for the big boats is undertaken, as well as other tools which should allow the big boats to actually fish stuff while not exploring.
The Fishing Docks are also expanded, to accomodate the future increase in food income.
As the population grows quicker than new activities can be devised, the young'uns become a bit bored, and as all bored youngs everywhere, seek new stuff to do.

Research: make Boats useful for fishing (one of the reason behind their building after all)
Building: Improve docks, build fishing tools for boats.
Others: otherwise idle population convert Clout to Random Research.

EDIT: damn, ninjad by a rule change... How does it works now?

Research
Research improved crafting techniques. ( Crafting centre produces 3 food 3 ic instead of 2 still using 1 pop. )

Building
Use 1 pop and 4 IC to build 1 ranch.

Other
Release wolves in the area around the camp to provide security. ( They are trained so I'm guessing they won't run away.
Send 1 pop out to search the forest for other settlements of any kind, they are to carry bow and take the dire wolf with them, ( Use 2 clout for this. )

There will be a turn here soon. Ish.
Barely looking up from his vents, Third Tentacle orders the Vent Seekers and the two unoccupied squid to take a little less than half of the food, and set up camp at the newly discovered Eye. He tells the two unoccupied squid to get to work hunting down whales, once they arrive. The Philo-squids drift around the first Eye, pondering its power and the connections between it and the others.

Clout:
Both Vent Seekers and the two unoccupied squids migrate with 8 food units. Once there, the two unoccupied ones become Whale Hunters.
Use all Clout to accomplish this.

Research:
     The Eyes: [25]
Everything related to the Eyes receives  a +1 bonus, and a +1 for every two Eyes discovered, to a total max of +5. ((OP?))
Chance of finding an Eye given a +5 bonus while the vents are being studied.

Population:
Third Tentacle continues studying the vents.

Silver Tounge Leader Activate! Lets earn some clout

Flyox The Slimy, Son of the Volcano and Supreme Leader of the Echolost sat upon his throne and watched as his people flocked around him to hear his words. Once enough had gathered, he cleared his throat and spoke.

"My Children, the scouts bring grave news. On the plains to the east our scouts have found a strange new people who walk the earth without flight. They dwarf us in height, and are covered in scales on their body.

These people appear to worship false gods, and are as such on the path to damnation. It is our duty to guide them to the salvation of the volcano. We will take them by the hand and groom their culture for spiritual success. We must kill their gods, lest down the road their foul gods see fit to meddle in our affairs through their massive hands!

For now, we must win the trust and respect of these people. Some of you will be called upon to visit them, and live among them for a time. We will bear gifts of food and arms, and try to learn their tongue.

Those who worship under my wings will be fruitful in life, and untied with my father for eternity after life ends! I am God, King, and Speaker of the Volcano, and my word is prosperity! Go in peace to do my will."

Research: Leatherwork

Spare Population: Send two units of population to visit the Taaridites. They will present 3 units of food and 2 IC worth of large Taaridite sized stone hatchets as gifts to the people. They will try to overcome the language barrier so that communication is possible. Spend 2 Clout on this action.

Construction:

Spend 5 IC rigging up Stonefall Traps below the mountain village on any obvious trails or paths that land-bound creatures could take.
Construct 2 IC worth of large stone hatchets to be gifted to the Taaridites
